Commercial Description:
Slam Dunkel was a small batch release in 2007. We had such an overwhelming response that we had to put it in the seasonal rotation. We also decided, as brewers, we couldn't live without drinking this beer every year! This 7% Double Dunkelweizen is unfiltered and made with over 50% wheat malt along with pale, munich, and a touch of chocolate to give it the traditional color and flavor. Bitterness is subdued to allow the Weihenstephen yeast to shine through with those traditional notes of banana and clove. Available in June in bottles and draft. Recipe by Chris Wilson, Head Brewer.

Somewhat unappetizing dark cloudy brown color. Some spice and yeast aroma. Flavor of caramel malt and chewy toasted bread. The finish is slightly fruity with a little banana. A bit of a fizzy and carbonated texture and some sweetness. Really smooth and pleasant drink.

Bottle. Cloudy brown pour with a big cream colored head. Typical style aroma of bananas and cloves, but with a more powerful flavor with noticeable (but not overpowering) alcohol presence. Pretty good.

22 oz. bottle. Pours a cloudy brown color with a medium sized fizzy beige head. The aroma is very sweet smelling: bananas, sweet malt, spice bread and a little yeast. The flavor is much like the nose: banana, cloves, bread, sweet malts, and a touch of alcohol. The first drink was especially smooth and creamy, but also showed good carbonation. This was better than I expected.

Tallahassee, Fl. - Liquor Loft - 22 oz bomber. Dark amber pour; slightly murky with a sticky mocha colored head. Clove and bubblegum aroma. Hearty raisiny flavor with some brief chocolate notes and a hint of toffee. Thick, rich and creamy mouthfeel. Good rib sticker.

22 oz bomber-Cloudy amber color w/a huge tan head which lasts forever. Sweet, roasted malt aroma. Rich flavor of roasted malt, bread dough, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, & dark fruit. Long creamy finish w/a touch of carbonation & just the right touch of bitterness. My first Dunkel; this one was quite enjoyable.

Brown pour with a nice looking off-white head. Aroma has some nice wheat notes with banana, bread, clove and maybe a faint whiff of chocolate. Mouthfeel is creamy, medium bodied, nice carbonation. Lots of banana up front, some bubblegum, caramel. It does have a rather bitter finish though. Bit of alcohol on the back-end. Overall, this a unique and excellent dunkel.
