Commercial Description:
Slam Dunkel was a small batch release in 2007. We had such an overwhelming response that we had to put it in the seasonal rotation. We also decided, as brewers, we couldn’t live without drinking this beer every year! This 7% Double Dunkelweizen is unfiltered and made with over 50% wheat malt along with pale, munich, and a touch of chocolate to give it the traditional color and flavor. Bitterness is subdued to allow the Weihenstephen yeast to shine through with those traditional notes of banana and clove. Available in June in bottles and draft. Recipe by Chris Wilson, Head Brewer.

22oz bomber pours a translucent, murky brown with a thin, slightly creamy slightly beige head. Smells pretty good, strong, sugary, sweet aroma, dark grains, stale bread, bananas, caramel and yeast. Flavor is very fruity, ripe bananas, plums, pears, wheat, brown sugar, bread and a little rum. Finish is sweet and dry with only a medium mouthfeel. I don’t love dunkelweizens, but this was a very good representation of the style and very drinkable.

On tap at Oldsmar Tap House. I have spoken with a few people, and many say this is much better on tap. It pours a murky, deep brown color with a creamy off-white head. Lots of sugary banana, spice, and light fruit with nice sweetness to it. Finish is sweet and lingering. Thoroughly enjoyable Dunkel.

12oz bottle from Capone’s (Norristown, PA). Pours a murky, deep brown with a moderate sized tan head. Aroma of dark wheat, clove, banana, and bubblegum. Flavor is wheaty, with some yeast, chocolate, fairly strong banana, some spice, tropical fruit and moderate alcohol. Creamy mouthfeel. Long, dark wheat finish. Nice Dunkel

Thought it was pretty funny when I searched for this beer on the site, about 10 other beers have the same name. 22oz bottle. Dark hazy brown pour with nice one-inch off-white head. Expected flavors of chocolate, malt, banana, and clove. Bready/yeasty and caramel apples as well. Thin. Tastes a bit stronger than 7% to my palate -- a bit of a sharp finish. Tasty overall, though.

Pours deep hazy brown into a Weizen glass. Off-white micro head with good retention recedes to coat surface. Clove and banana aromas. Smooth and full with bubblegum upfront and a lasting banana liquor finish.

22oz from Sam’s, Durham. Nice dark pour, resembling a robust doppelbock, with plenty of vigor in the body and some crisp carbonation. The aroma has gentle malts and a lot of tart fruit in it - very nice. Soft banana bread flavors in the taste complement the malts, and the fizzy mouthfeel keeps it quite drinkable. Pretty good.

lost of good body in its feel, the malts are rich with a slight good twang, slight taste of bananas and caramel malts. This is a fine beer.

The aroma has bananas, cloves, wheat, and yeast. The appearance is cloudy chestnut with a large head. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is average. Overall it’s good.
