Commercial Description:
Slam Dunkel was a small batch release in 2007. We had such an overwhelming response that we had to put it in the seasonal rotation. We also decided, as brewers, we couldn't live without drinking this beer every year! This 7% Double Dunkelweizen is unfiltered and made with over 50% wheat malt along with pale, munich, and a touch of chocolate to give it the traditional color and flavor. Bitterness is subdued to allow the Weihenstephen yeast to shine through with those traditional notes of banana and clove. Available in June in bottles and draft. Recipe by Chris Wilson, Head Brewer.

bottle poured a brown in color with a nice frothy head. aroma has rich caramel sweetness, wheat, banana, and faint spice. solid medium mouth feel with light carbonation. sweetness picks up, caramel, thick wheat, banana but not from the yeast, and I do see a snap of chocolate hidden in there. not stunning but tasty and interesting.

Hazy brown our with off whitehead and lace. Aroma is brown sugar and a bit of earthy hops. Semi sweet malt with medium brown sugar and a light/medium bitter. Slightly fizzy and a tad thin. All round good beer.

Pours a hazy brown color with a tan head. Aroma is clove, banana, apple, wheat, raisins, caramel, and some peppery hops. Flavor is malty, caramel, apple, raisins, clove, wheat, and a bitter peppery finish.

22 oz’er ... Dang, there is an enormous gristy/wheaty aroma coming off this dark brown beer. It drinks with an odd banana-based esther essence, not quite bocky, not quite weizeny ... There’s also an interesting twist of some chocolatey malt here that (to me at least) doesn’t quite fit. Not sure about this one ... (#3577, 7/8/2009)

Bottle, shared by Taylor. Nose is fruity, chewy malts. Flavor shows a tropical hop profile interspersed with the existing malt presence. Alcohol noted slightly on the palate.

Weyerbacher is an old favorite of mine for its strong beers that are heavy on falvor any alcohol. But this offering is a great summer brew by them that mainstains there ABV tradition. A cloudy brwon colored beer with spice and yeast aroma. The taste is a little spicey and yeast with an almost lemon flavor up front. thinner palate but that is sort of needed in a summer brew. had 3 to myself.

this was an okay beer. Nothing special in my opinoin. Compared to others in its style, I’d have to put this beer in the bottom half.

Great caramel and coconut flavors. The mouthfeel is fine. Very sweet and very drinkable.
