COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Slam Dunkel was a small batch release in 2007. We had such an overwhelming response that we had to put it in the seasonal rotation. We also decided, as brewers, we couldn’t live without drinking this beer every year! This 7% Double Dunkelweizen is unfiltered and made with over 50% wheat malt along with pale, munich, and a touch of chocolate to give it the traditional color and flavor. Bitterness is subdued to allow the Weihenstephen yeast to shine through with those traditional notes of banana and clove. Available in June in bottles and draft. Tap at Weyerbacher. Pours out a cloudy light brownish color with a moderate creamy white head. Aroma of caramel and some sweet fruit. Taste is complex with a nice creamy mouthfeel, notes of caramel, spice, some light banana flavors and a touch of yeast. Solid beer

Poured a medium and cloudy brown color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of toast, bready, caramel, spices, and a little fruity. Tastes of chocolate, fruity (bananas), and spices. Alcohol well hidden.

This dunkel weizen pours a medium brown color from a 22oz bottle. Small sized white foamy head. The aroma is caramel malt, wheat and dark fruit. A medium bodied dunkel. The malts are caramel, dark fruit and banana. Hops are earthy. A fairly sweet Dunkelweizen with lots of banana and brown sugar flavors. Very smooth tasting. Very easy drinking. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Pours a hazy copper orange with a stringy-lacing light-tan head. Aroma of sweet doughy dark caramel malt, fruity bananas and Bavarian yeast. Body starts fairly full and toasty caramely sweet with nice peppery clove notes and authenticity. Well balanced and very drinkable, a nice dunkelweizen.

From notes on 9/28/2007. On tap at Teresa’s Next Door... Appears a dark amber-brown with a small, off-white head that slowly fades into a cap with a decenct collar. Smell is of bananas, cloves, cocoa, and roasted grains. Taste is of the mentioned aromas with a beautiful, ripe, dark fruit flavor pulling through to compliment the cocoa, banana, and clove notes. A nice blast of peppery spiciness, and citrus pulls up the rear. Really delicious. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, spritzy up front with brown sugar lingering into a smooth finish. Well done dunkelweizen. One of my favorite styles. Not sure how this would turn out if bottled but damn fine on draft.

On tap at Teresa’s Next Door. Pours a hazy brown/amber with a med off white lacing head. Aroma of toasted malt, banana, clove and some nuts. Flavors of the same...well done Dunkelweizen. 7,5% would not have guessed.

Draught: Aroma of chocolate malts, banana, bubblegum, and a hint of spice. Poured a copper/brown color with a hint of amber, and a big, dense, foamy, creamy, head. Good lacing. Hazy. Sparkling. Flavor is a bit vinous. Tastes of bubblegum, wheat, spice, and alcohol. Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Malty finish with some alcohol burn.

THOUGHTS: The alc. isn’t very noticable. A nice summer beer that would be nice even in the winter. It is a shame this is a one time only brew. I would definitely try it again. I recommend it to Dunklewiezen fans. A little hight alc than some dunklewiezens. TECHNICAL: Sampel at Weyerbache, growler from Weyerbacher, and on tap at Witch Brew and Grey Lodge. Poured a medium brown to dark orange with beautiful carbonation and a large, off-whtie head that left good lacing. The aroma was moderate milk chocolate malt, light yeast, banana and bubble gum, very light alcohol and wheat. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and acidic and sour, while the finish was moderately to heavily sweet and moderately acidic with a short duration. The dominant flavors were wheat, banana and some milk chocolate. There was a little something unpleasant too, but it was very underlying and I couldn’t put a finger on what it was. The light to medium body was slightly watery with fizzy carbonation and a slighlty chalky, lightly astringent and lightly alcoholic finish.
