Commercial Description:
Slam Dunkel was a small batch release in 2007. We had such an overwhelming response that we had to put it in the seasonal rotation. We also decided, as brewers, we couldn't live without drinking this beer every year! This 7% Double Dunkelweizen is unfiltered and made with over 50% wheat malt along with pale, munich, and a touch of chocolate to give it the traditional color and flavor. Bitterness is subdued to allow the Weihenstephen yeast to shine through with those traditional notes of banana and clove. Available in June in bottles and draft. Recipe by Chris Wilson, Head Brewer.

Bottle shared at tasting. Poured a light brown with a tan head. Aroma of yeast, spice, wheat, fruit, bread malt. Taste is similar with more of the spice coming through than in the aroma. Mouth is lively. Overall, an enjoyable dunkel.

Bottle from Anderson’s in Toledo. Dark, hazy brown with white head. Aroma is yeasty, nutty, bready, some sweetness. Flavors are a little nutty and bready as well with some burnt sugar, red fruit. Medium body and creamy. Nice but not really all that interesting.

Ok, so this is one of the strangest beers I have ever poured. It was like it was turning into foam as it was being poured. Very cloudy and viscous looking yet settled nicely in the glass with a 2+ inch high head of very fine and incredibly dense and creamy bubbles. I don’t think that I have ever seen a brew pour like this before. Looks like a fine english barleywine in the glass with a huge head. I have had this brew on several occasions before nad don’t ever remember it being like this. Hmm, i could have sworn that this brew was a belgian dubbel. Well that explains the thick viscous look. Sweet malty aroma with lots of yeasty notes, wheat and some ripe bananas. Color is a cloudy dark mahagony brown. Little bit of sharp bitterness up front then some chalky wheat, smooth malty palate and some more ripe bananas. Noticable alcohol kick and presence that see higher than the advertised 7%. Finishes a bit dry and chalky with some lingeirng wheat and bananas. A damn good weizenbock.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a small, off-white head over a hazed brown body. Aroma of brown sugar, bread and a bit of chocolate. Taste is malty with some nuts, alcohol, chocolate and banana esters. Light bubbles and a creamy mouthfeel.

On tap. Poured a light brown color with a short white head and minimal lacing. The aroma is roasted malt with light clove, chocolate and some wheat. The flavor is roasted malt and clove mostly with some dry wheat coming through. Average mouthfeel with a finished that lingered on the sweet side. Decent.
