COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Slam Dunkel was a small batch release in 2007. We had such an overwhelming response that we had to put it in the seasonal rotation. We also decided, as brewers, we couldnít live without drinking this beer every year! This 7% Double Dunkelweizen is unfiltered and made with over 50% wheat malt along with pale, munich, and a touch of chocolate to give it the traditional color and flavor. Bitterness is subdued to allow the Weihenstephen yeast to shine through with those traditional notes of banana and clove. Available in June in bottles and draft. Recipe by Chris Wilson, Head Brewer.

12oz bottle. Pours a clear light amber brown color with a thin creamy tan head. Aroma of toasted malt, banana, and clove. Tastes of banana sweetness, spiciness (pepper and clove), toasted malt, and yeast.

12 oz. bottle from Manchester Discount Beverage in Manchester, CT. Pours a cloudy rust color, not much lacing. Smell is spicy citrus, dark fruits. Definite plum and coriander, Belgian yeast. Taste is the best part, fruity, a bit roasty, sweet fruit and caramel, mild hop presence. Mouth feel is great, a bit viscous yet effervescent and alive. A great American version of this style. Definitely a smooth drinkability and plenty of kick to go with it. Advertised as a double dunkel but has single smoothness. This brewery, in general puts out really good stuff, will plan on reviewing more of their beers as soon as I can.

Heavy clove nose, with cocoa and soil underneath. Murky brown, wispy sediments, firm medium tan head. Creamy mouthfeel. Cocoa, clove, banana flavor. A tad boozy, but the brewer does label this as a double dunkelweizen. While it certainly isnít quaffable, itís hardly a chore. Pretty effin neat and a meal unto itself.

Opaque cloudy red - brown beer. Tidy pale tan head. Palate is smooth with a trailing carbonated bite. Sweetish caramel malt, well balanced banana esters. Lactose and a little tangy fruits before the semi dry finish. Drinkable.

Bottle. Moderate toasted cereal for the malt, light to moderate cooked orange for the hops, moderate dough for the yeast, with hints of brown sugar and cream sherry. Head is tiny, off-white with no lacing and is fully diminishing. Color is murky, dark reddish brown. Flavor starts lightly to modeately sweet and acidic, then finishes lightl sweet and acidic. Palate is medium to full, creamy with a lively carbonation and a lightly astringent finish. Nice representation of a Dunkleweizen, sweet, full and rich.

12 oz bottle from Baruniís in Baden, PA. Nearly perfect in every regard. Still wish my sister lived in Easton where I could get these good ales even fresher.

(35 cl bottle from Toft Vin) Pours cloudy brown with quickly dissipating head that leves lace. Aroma is malty with banana notes and a slightly acidic hint. Flavour follows the nose with some more pronounced acidity and a whiff of cardboard in addition to the caramel maltiness. Oily texture, soft carbonation, full body and a dry finish. Definitely not my kind of style.

A dark clear brown dunkel with a thin brown head. In aroma, a sweet fruity caramel with molasses and light licorice, light solvent. In mouth, a nice smooth chocolate malt with coffee notes, lightly burned, a bit musty.

12oz bottle in a weizen glass. Pours brown with a fluffy, light beige head. Aroma some nutty and caramel malts, some wheat, a little chocolate, and floral hops. Flavor the same, with a nice blend of everything. Average texture. A good beer for the style.
