Commercial Description:
Slam Dunkel was a small batch release in 2007. We had such an overwhelming response that we had to put it in the seasonal rotation. We also decided, as brewers, we couldn’t live without drinking this beer every year! This 7% Double Dunkelweizen is unfiltered and made with over 50% wheat malt along with pale, munich, and a touch of chocolate to give it the traditional color and flavor. Bitterness is subdued to allow the Weihenstephen yeast to shine through with those traditional notes of banana and clove. Available in June in bottles and draft. Recipe by Chris Wilson, Head Brewer.

22 oz bottle courtesy of phillybeer2112. Pour is a nice cascading murky brown ruby with a well formed light tan head. Aroma of roasty caramel maltiness. Some soft milkiness below that. Nice nose. Taste is the nose, notably the roasty toasty caramel. Taste also introduces bittersweet fruit, apple is the closest. Some herbal and tobacco at the back of the taste as well. Palate is unfiltered, medium and satisfying. Decent level of carbonation. Nice beer, thanks for sending this my way, Dan!

12 oz bottle from a trade with Linus_Stick. pours deep hazy brown with minimal head. aromas are dark weizen in nature and very similar to aventinus but not quite as big. flavour: are a lot of red berries with the banana/clove dark wheat + yeast. a little muddled but still very good. thanks for the bottle linus!

Pours a dark hazy chestnut brown color with slight amber/mahogany edges an a one finger foamy beige head that quickly settles into a thin ring. Not much in the way of lacing. Dark malt aroma with lots of chocolate, caramel and hazelnut accompanied by hints of spicy, peppery clove, citrus peel notes and ripe banana. Medium bodied with some smooth silky chocolate and caramel malt character but the ripe banana and clove flavors are very prominent. Slight citrus peel notes and some subtle hops which really come through in the finish. Pretty quaffable with not much detectable alcohol warmth.

On tap at Oldsmar Tap House. I have spoken with a few people, and many say this is much better on tap. It pours a murky, deep brown color with a creamy off-white head. Lots of sugary banana, spice, and light fruit with nice sweetness to it. Finish is sweet and lingering. Thoroughly enjoyable Dunkel.

22oz bottle. Pours dark, dark mahogany with a big rocky tan head that lingers for quite a while, leaving good lacing. Aroma is big on dark fruits on top of the wheat backbone with abundant fruity sweetness, mainly bananas and vanilla. Taste has a big bready background but with tons of fruits on top. There is also plenty of malt in the taste as well and everything is very well balanced. The mouthfeel is creamy with lots of carbonation and leaves the tongue tingling a bit after each sip. This is a very unique beer and one that I enjoyed thoroughly. Recommended.

Bottle. Pours murky red brown with a beige head. Sweet fruity aroma with a bit of toasted malt and spices. Very smooth and subtle. Very well balanced with banana like fruity sweetness, some toasty malt, and clove like spice. Quite tasty.

Weyerbacher is an old favorite of mine for its strong beers that are heavy on falvor any alcohol. But this offering is a great summer brew by them that mainstains there ABV tradition. A cloudy brwon colored beer with spice and yeast aroma. The taste is a little spicey and yeast with an almost lemon flavor up front. thinner palate but that is sort of needed in a summer brew. had 3 to myself.
