COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sour Black, ~5% ABV, is a Black Ale aged in Wine Barrels. These barrels are the same used Pinot Noir barrels which produced Rapture. Brettanomyces lambicus was added to the barrels adding a nice acidity. Itís fruity and tart with just enough roasted character; a truly delightful dark ale.

Tasted on 10/13/13 from a corked and caged 750mL bottle sent to me as an extra in a trade, this one was a bit of a gusher. Pours nearly black with a very thick, tan head that slowly recedes to thin lace. The nose is primarily darkly roasted malt with sour and vinous fruits underlying, and just a touch of brett funk. The flavor is a bit more focused on the sour, vinous, and oak notes, but the roasted dark chocolate and coffee end up dominating in the end. The body is fairly light with vary lively, almost sparkling carbonation and a long darkly roasted and oaky vinous finish.

Pours dark thick brownish black with a beige head. A few years old on this guy brings the lambicus aroma with a smooth fruity tartness so nice in the nose. Flavor brings lighter tart notes, not puckering, with a decent candi fruit type flavor on a decent body.

25.4 oz bottle. A careless pour yielded mostly tan foam settling to dark brown. Nose is funky old fruit, sourdough and red wine. Crisp and tart but kind of ashy. Taste is sour plum, coffee grounds, earth, faint chocolate and wood.

GABF 2012. Pours with a black hued body and a tan head. Aromas are nutty, fruity, lightly roasty, raspberries, vinous, red wines and some acidity. Mildly earthy funk. Flavors are sour, fruity and acidic, with some raspberry notes, distracting roast, vinous, woody, raw barrel character. Medium carbonation.

Nearly opaque black color with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of wood, vanilla, Pinot, berries, brett, light roast and some bacteria. Taste of vanilla, red wine, dried fruits, lightly malty, vanilla, some wood, and a lightly sour finish.

Bottle shared by the Tampa Crew. Cheers, guys! Pours a stout brown with an off-tan head. Nose is roast, vinegar, vinous tartness, some oak, some funk, vinegar, and hints of fruit. Flavor is similar with some vinous tartness, some oak, some vinegar, and some fruit. Lovely sour that wonít kill me at 5.1%.

750 ml bottle thanks to my friend Josh. Pours a black with a grey head of foam. The aroma is that dry, funky, near floral sour from the brett. I get some woody notes out of this as well. Taste is dry sourness. Earthy and funky. Nice, crisp, fizzy mouthfeel, nearly what you would expect from a fountain soda, but a little thicker than most sodas Iíve come across.
