COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sour Black, ~5% ABV, is a Black Ale aged in Wine Barrels. These barrels are the same used Pinot Noir barrels which produced Rapture. Brettanomyces lambicus was added to the barrels adding a nice acidity. It’s fruity and tart with just enough roasted character; a truly delightful dark ale.

The ChrisO small midweek tasting. Opaque dark brown beer. Light crisp palate. Barrel aged bourbon sweetness contrasts with a sour edge. A little brett. Crisp finish. All right.

Night of the Funk 2012. Nice combination of roasty coffee grounds and soft sourness. It works.

Bottle at a ChrisO tasting, London. Pours black-brown with a large, tan foam head. Good sourness on the nose, some ripe berries. Light to medium sweet flavor with dark malts, dirt and background roast. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Moderate tartness at the end, light dirt, soft cocoa. Pretty nice, interesting.

Black pour with a khaki head. Smells a bit like licorice with some balsamic vinegar sourness, oak, chalk, and wine. A fair amount of roast, some raisin, char, and burnt sugar. Strange flavor. Somewhat sweet with burnt sugar, licorice, and molasses sweetness. Balsamic vinegar sourness, a bit of wood, somewhat chalky, and a mild wine flavor. Some dark fruit notes of raisin, dates, and grape. The finish is very dry.

Bottle at Chriso - 25/09/12. Very dark brown in colouration with a good sized frothy tan head. Tarte cherries on the nose allied to a little wood and sour dark berry fruits. Taste follows, brett tones, more sour fruits and a pinch of spice. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. I enjoyed this one.

750mL at Campdown Brewdown. Gusher. Muddy maroon pour with yellowish foam. Nose is browned butter and grape soda. Taste is tangy, hot, minerally, sweet red grape. Eh. Not offensive. As it warms, it gains some very nice red wine acidity. Effervescent. Better than expected.
