Appearance: deep brown, slightly cloudy, creamy tan head that quickly shrinks. Aroma: prominent maraschino cherries, candi sugar, light molasses and brown sugar, Belgian yeast, a bit of leather and pipe tobacco. Taste: as the aroma indicated. Finish: smooth and slightly yeasty, with a lasting, slightly medicinal cherry kick. Notes: Generally a fine Belgian dark ale, with reasonably hidden alcohol. Cherry notes were slightly syrupy and just a tad medicinal, but was happy to try another creative offering from these guys. Bottle from Sarah for Beerdvent 2014, with another bottle from the Rare Beer Club.

Reddish brown with a tart cherry and tobacco aroma. Like a horse blanket but not advertised as a sour. Dry and dank finish.

750ml bottle - from the Rare Beer Club.

Best Before 11/07/16.

Appearance: Pours a tawny, leathery brown, just a bit hazy, with a medium-sized, off-white head.

Smell: Deeply bready, with a golden syrup-soaked sweet-smelling quality to it. Pils malt, light cocoa powder, a liberal dusting of finely ground clove. The fruity cherry accent is adjoined to the fruity esters from the Belgian yeast.

Taste: Decidedly sweet tasting toffee-infused richly bready malts with a little chocolate and molasses at the edges. Fruitiness of plum and banana as well as the added tart cherries studded with cloves. The alcohol presence is noticeable, especially once it’s adhered to the spicy, earthy phenolic yeast qualities. It’s this harsh component which carries you across the finish. I find myself immediately grimacing from the toothsome sweetness, then the cherried clove hits and finally the noticeable alcohol. Not graceful one bit.

Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation. A little bit sticky in the mouth.

Overall: Sorry, Tango. This is why I don’t dance.

750ml from Beer of Month club, served in snifter. Faint aroma of sour cherry. Dark cherry color, lightly carbonated. Tart cherry taste leading to somewhat harsh high alcohol bite. Mildly creamy body, sour brief finish. Much better when you’ve let the ale warm a bit.

750ml bottle, split about 3 ways. Poured a dark amber color, some light ruby notes with a off-white head. Lots of carbonation. Let it settle. Aroma was light sweet, roasty notes. Light cherries, solid Belgian notes.
