Bottled. A pitch black beer with thin beige head. The aroma has strong notes of wood, roasted malt, coffee, and alcohol reminding me of bourbon. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, wood, and some coffee, leading to a very dry roasted finish, where a bit of bourbon shines thru. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.

Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of TheCheeseMan. Pours black and opaque with a small and dissipating light brown head. Dark, dried fruits in the nose with some vanilla and alcohol. Solid body, low in carbonation, vanilla and hard roasted malts but the sweet dried fruits dominate. Sweet and warming acohol in the finish. 280110

On draught at Birreria Paradiso. Black with dark brown head. Tastes like a red or port wine but with a bitter finish. Interesting but needs more complexity perhaps with aging.

bottle at home ... black ... barest lacing ....raisins and treacle rich heavy nose ... soft carbonation ... very heavy ... treacle malt ... just too much hard work ...again raisns and plums ... i want to enjoy this but i cant ... its just to heavy ... with nothing subtle about it.

Bottle from New Beer Distributors, NYC, vintage 2008, 2½ years old
The color is pitch black; the head is medium sized, beige, but not persistent. Very strong aroma of tar, roasted malts, liquorice, coffee, phenols. Strong body, but also strong alcohol upfront; the first flavor to pick are liquorice and tar, followed by roasted nuts and light biscuits; there is a touch of vanilla; luckily the sweetness, moderate, wins over the black malts; the final is very warming. Very good, mature.

/12/13/13/9/13
