JFURYCAT (701), East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 30, 2008 At first I thought it was a bit rough with some bitter coffee and yeasty tones but it caught on after a few open house samplings. Maybe it needs aging like 10 needed? The body is a bit medium for me given the style of which I expected to me more creamy. It has the carbonation and yeast flavor I’ve had in a triple but with the darkness of a stout. I await getting this in bottles for my basement.
kkearn (596), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 17, 2008 12oz bottle from Capone’s (Norristown, PA). Pours incredibly deep brown, nearly opaque, capped with a large brown head. Rich roasted chocolate malt aroma, with notes of alcohol, plum, molasses, coffee, and paint thinner. Flavor is big malt, chocolate, and roasted coffee with some notes of yeast, salt, and alcohol. Finish is primarily coffee with some alcohol burn. Viscous, yest silky smooth mouthfeel. This is probably the best offering I’ve ever tried from Weyerbacher, and I suspect it will only get better with age. I hope they give this one the barrel treatment. hophead75 (1620), Boonton, New Jersey, USA Jul 16, 2008 22 oz bottle. This poured opaque black with a medium sized brown head that retained very well. Awesome, perfect appearance. Aroma: roast, chocolate, coffee, some dark fruit, and mild belgian esters and light phenols- although most of the yeast was covered up by the intense malt character. There was also a moderate amount of alcohol in the nose. Taste- very big and intense, alot of roast, chocolate, and molasses sweetness balanced somewhat by hop bitterness. Full bodied, with some yeasty esters (light banana) and phenols. Still a bit hot, but that is to be expected at that ABV. The best Weyerbacher Anniversary beer I’ve had, and this one is going to get alot better. BeerGestapo (246), Windsor, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 13, 2008 (USA) Had on tap at Capone’s, Pours black with sm tan head. The aroma is of molasses and licorice and the taste is of chocolate, raisins and coffee. The 13.4 % is well hidden and quite yummy. If you get a chance please try this brew !!! Funknmilla (489), Absecon, New Jersey, USA Jul 12, 2008 Bomber bottle, thanks for sharing NJDevilz69.....very very dark brown+ brown sugar head...light aromas of sweet malt, alcohol, and a subtle roasted malt coming through, but mostly alcohol....silky body----wow! holy alcohol coming through ...the saltiness of the high alcohol...whoosh!!!....a bitter alcohol infused chocolate and a salty bitter toffee...I taste a prune/raisin that quality thats mainly in the finish...I think it needs age as this is a fresh release....must re-rate lebshiff21 (14), Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 12, 2008 Yikes - hard to wrap your head around this one. On tap at Capone’s. Pretty well balanced, you can definitely taste the "Belgian inspiration". Super strong, and you can taste it.
Lots of coffee, chocolate, and a little smoky. I’d like to have a go at this late at night this fall/winter. I like it a lot.
