Bottle: Nearly black pour with a fizzy brown head that disapates quickly. Nose is dry, roasty, earthy coffee, bitters, and vinous sour. More dry roast and bittersweets in the flavor. Maybe some licorice... Fiizzy mouthful and sort of a hot finish. There are some good things here, mostly in the aroma imo, but its not really working for me.

Dark thick poor. Beautiful head.aroma is caramel, earthy, and chocolaty. Sweet taste and velvety but has a strong alcohol finish. Normally I’m a big fan of imperial stouts.

Bottle from Cask Pub & Kitchen. Black pour with a medium, dark tan head leaving extremely sticky, good looking lacing all over. Damn good looking beer. Nose doesn’t disappoint. Velvety chocolate, light farmhouse, heavy roast, light berries - almost tart but without giving it a sour note. Damn appealing. Heavy roast and cocoa. Smooth as they come. ABV is hidden superbly! Drinks very easily with a creamy mouth feel and light bitterness on the finish. Fantastic stuff

0.75 l - Great looking in the glass. Nose is where it should be, however palate is one-dimensional. It’s a little too boozy for me.

Solid jet black pour. Amazing dark tan head. When cold the tartness comes out from the Belgian yeast. As the beer warms the complexity of character really comes out. The sweetness mellows and thealt really comes through. The mix of the yeast and malt delivers delicious notes of dark toffee, chocolate and anise in a mesium to thick mouthfeel. Finish is crisp and dried figs, prunes, raisins linger on the palate.

Deep pitch black coloured body with a thick luscious brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, anise, licorice, alcohol, whiskey, oak and a bit of oatmeal. Full-bodied; Super strong roasty malt flavours with a bit of coffee, caramel, milk, toffee and some lighter hops. Aftertaste is strong and complex, but dominated by alcohol and roasted malt with vanilla very strongly present. Overall, a super pungent and strong Imperial Stout which is nice, but the bottle format could use some rethinking! I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Arlington, Virginia sampled at Shenandoah National Park on 25-September-2010.

(bottle, not sure how old) Pours out a jet black color with a large dark tan head that rapidly dissipates to a thin tan ring around the glass. Aroma is an initial potent punch of port wine, with "stoutier" scents of chocolate and roasted malt showing up as well. Perhaps banana, but not nearly as much as their previous Belgian Impy Stout in the anniversary series. Alcohol shows in a big way with a smell reminiscent of rubber cement. Good and bad here. Further warming reveals Grape Drank and Dimetapp. Weird and wild stuff. The flavor follows suit with the aromas, but there’s far more of a stout presence here than the bit that’s in the smell. Most of the roasted malt shows up in the finish, with chocolate flavors interspersed in the mid betwixt dark fruit flavors like plum jam. Raisins and some date flavors show up here too. Faintly yeasty on the finish. The mouthfeel itself is really thin for the size of this beer, and the carbonation is a little spritzy. Booze stings on the finish. Overall this was an ok beer, but not one I’d like to ever revisit.

Bottle, bought @ Mikkeller Bar, Cph.
Pours completely black with a small, staying, creamy, beige film head. Aroma has chocolate, vinious notes, port, piney, coffee, plums, raisin. Medium carbonation, nice dry and creamy mouthfeel. Flavour is dry, chocolate, raisins, vinious. Light smoky dry coffee notes. Lovely Imperial Stout.

Poured opaque black with two fingers of khaki head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate, vanilla and dark fruit with a bit of booziness. Taste of roasted malt and chocolate with some licorice and dark fruit. Has some spiciness and alcohol warming character but not taste. Mouthfeel is soft and full with an active carbonation. A good take on the style with some nice Belgian spicy character. ---Jeremy H

Pitch black with little head. Smells of booze, chocolate, roasted, raisin. Chocolate syrup taste with some roast and wood and coffee, malt and a tiny bit of bitter. Pretty good overall. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
