b33r (332), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Jan 8, 2008 Bright orange color with small diminishing white head and some lacing. Aroma has light fruits and malts. It’s faint but very nice. Flavor is sweet and creamy, slightly hoppy, with more dominant malt and spice flavors. A bit of an alcohol tingle. Not the best barley wine, but it is a very interesting Rye barley wine. Extra points for doing something different. Pretty good overall, just looks like it’s not a popular one.
afireinside96 (495), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 28, 2008 Bottle, served in a Duvel tulip. Amber body topped by a big foamy off-white head. Smells sweet, spicy, candy, musty basement, vaguely Belgian-ish. Syrupy sweet, lots of alcohol flavor, very "hot" even after a year. Just too damn thick, sweet, and hot to finish. I can’t believe they brewed this to celebrate their anniversary. MAP (894), Lakewood, Ohio, USA Sep 14, 2008 This almost foamed over after I opened it while it was resting on the counter. The pour gave way to a slightly hazy amber color with a thin white head. This has a spicy malt smell, with the same sugary character from prophecy. Mouthfeel is syrupy and viscous. It clings to the tongue and lets you taste it for a while after. It has some funky malt taste, sugar, dark fruit and light hop citrus. The sweetness here makes me thing this is almost a Belgian strong, but this has a little bit more malt thickness (but not as much as the usual barley wine.) jjpm74 (3087), Stratford, CT 06614, Connecticut, USA Sep 14, 2008 Pours amber with a thin white head. Smells of wildflowers, some citrus, earthy. Tastes earthy and fruity with lots of grassy notes and some tea hints on the finish. lemasney (297), Trenton, New Jersey, USA Sep 10, 2008 RateBeer Rating, Style and Glass: 44, Barleywine, Snifter
