It is a Belgian-style Pale Ale with an American twist. It is brewed with pale, caramel, and wheat malts, and hopped with centennial and Cascade hops to give it a distinctly American character. The medium bodied beer has a crisp palate and moderate bitterness coupled with the fruity esters from the abbey yeast strain. It is bottle and keg conditioned so expect a tall fluffy head and a small amount of sediment. Recipe by brewer, Jeff Musselman.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass. A: Pours a mildly hazy burnt copper color. Before the dregs were poured in, it was clear amber. Thereís about one and a half fingers of an eggshell-colored head, having that soapy froth expected from a Belgian-style ale. The lacing left behind is pretty decent. S: This has plenty of fresh-cut apples, some hints of apricot, and a little pear, as well. The fruitiness here is good, and itís subtly backed by a bready yet spicy yeast note. I even pick up a kiss of hops. While the aroma is íbasicí, thereís no doubt it works quite well. T: It starts off pretty fruity (apricots, apples, and pears mainly), before itís quickly replaced with bready notes. It finishes pretty spicy, as well: the black pepper and herbs I pick up slightly reminds me of a saison. But make no mistake, this isnít a saison. No real complaints apart from the lack of depth. M: Any Belgian ale worth its weight in ghost chilies should always finish dry and somewhat fizzy - in laymanís terms, it should feel like itís evaporating off the tongue. This one does that. However, it seems to rely too much on the powerful carbonation doing that job, as once that goes, its residue sticks around on the tongue a bit more than it should. O: Another solid offering from Weyerbacher. They hit the basics bang on, but there isnít quite enough ízingí to make this a stellar example of the style. Still, Iíd drink it again.

Pours deep clear amber. Aroma is full of sweet roasted malt, coffee and milk chocolate. Taste is very smooth, and has a coffee/chocolate flavor kind of hoppy.

Mild pine and citrus aroma. Hazy burnt yellow body with minimal head. Bold bitter start is balanced with a bread and lemon combination. Pleasant finish.

12 oz bottle at Howlerís in Pittsburgh. Sweet and somewhat perfume flavored. A nice balance of hops that is not overdone. A nice addition in the very fine Weyerbacher family.

12oz bottle to tulip glass. Aroma is primarily yeast. Dough. Hops. Citrus and herbs. Appearance is orange to light amber. Three finger frothy white head dissipates quickly leaving some lacing. Taste crisp and is lightly sweet with some medium bitterness complimenting well with the sweetness. This creates almost a tart like flavor. Some light sourness. Medium bodied. Oily Texture. Lively carbonation. Long lightly bitter finish. This beer is different. It is like a Belgium, a sour and a crisp IPA blended together. Overall I gotta say I like it. I will defiantly buy again. Would make a good spring/ early summer beer as well as anytime.

Pale amber, clear initially, hazy later. Attractive, earthy and herbal nose. Light body, slight flavor density, rich but refreshing mouthfeel, good carbonation, long and austere finish. Dry, bitter, refreshing acidity. Hoppy but also fruity, touch of dry malt. Elegant and interesting more than delicious but I can see it being someone else's favorite beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Appearance: Hazy burnt orange with very small head. Aroma: ripe banana and bubble gum, the Belgian yeast really shines through. Taste: moderate carbonation with the taste very similar to aroma with some breadiness to go along Overall: nice beverage, reminds me of a Hefeweizen. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle purchased either at Four Firkins, Elevated, or Surdykís...my memory is failing me. Poured into glass purchased in Brussels. Pours a deep orange hue with hazy characteristics making their presence known. Aroma is bready/yeasty with some mild banana and citrus. Taste has plenty of spice to it with coriander at the forefront and even brings to mind a slight bit of sour. It has some caramel notes but the hops eventually become the primary player as the taste nears its end. The aftertaste had a slight metallic note I didnít appreciate. Overall, I would consider this a very good Belgian Pale Ale and one I would gladly recommend to other beer drinkers. Had to look up what verboten meant and, because this beer was so tasty, Iím going to start using it in sentences to impress all my friends. Example: Drinking this beer is the opposite of verboten.
