3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: FEB 23, 2013 2010 edition served Dec. 2010 in pint glass.
This beer beer pours a cloudy dark amber color with a thick tan head that slowly fades to a nice ring.
The aroma is good. This smells like a winter ale, with roasted chocolate malt overlaid with some spices and a bit of a fruity and floral yeast aroma.
The taste is interesting and has some complexity. Although rather on the sweet side, it is dry on the finish with slight bitterness and some nuttiness.
The mouthfeel is good, with a medium/full body, a creamy feel, and a nice level of carbonation.
This is an interesting beer, with good flavor and creaminess, making for high drinkability. Lacks the body or high ABV found in more traditional winter ales.

3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
From the bottle, pours a dark red-almost black, with minimal off white head. Aroma is corny and grainy, not building anticipation. Taste is better than expected. Mostly malty, some chocolate?, a hint of spices, good, not great.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled November 11, 2012.
Appearance: The body is a very dark, but clear, garnet hued with brown tones on the edges. The head is thin and tan with average retention that becomes a thin coating with a thin foamy ring.
Aroma: This is mellow with caramel, cocoa, roasted malts and hints of dark fruits. This leans a bit sweet and enticing.
Taste: The intro and mid-taste are a bit toasted with a slightly bitter cocoa flavor, the cocoa remains a light bitterness to the end where some sweeter cocoa presence shows through with a semi-dry finish that has a nutty flavor.
Palate: Medium body, but a bit thin with light to medium carbonation.
Overall: I think this is a really good brown ale, it doesn’t stand out but the subtle flavors draw me in to wanting more. It’s a great beer to kick back a few and something I would give a friend who isn’t into craft beer.
