COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
At Weyerbacher we have created a Winter Ale that is a must for any malty beer lover. Winner of a Silver Medal in the 1998 World Beer Championships, Weyerbacher Winter Ale is brewed with deep-roasted chocolate malt. The taste predominates with a warm, roasty flavor, balanced out with a slightly dry finish. It is smooth but not cloying, with a warming belt of alcohol (5.6% ABV). Although winter ales predate history, they are believed to have their origin in the pagan celebrations of winter solstice. Later, when monasteries produced the local brew, winter ales were made each year to commemorate the birth of Christ. Back then, winter ales were brewed full-bodied as a source of nutrition for the upcoming winter months. Today, winter ales are typified by their seasonality, their rich, malty flavors and by their deep, dark coloration. Generally available November-March, Weyerbacher Winter Ale is the perfect libation for a winter meal, with good friends, or beside a warm fire fending off a cold winter night.

Pours a deep brown color witha reddish hue and a medium tan head. Toasty aromas with chocolate and roast. Some hops. The flavor is similar, with some coffee flavors too and not much bitterness. Soem smokey character too, but that may just be a phenol. Overall a pretty drinkable dark beer.

Winter Weyerbacher. Very solid beer. Extremely well balanced, but possibly a tad boring because of it. Hints of cherry in the malt/booze, not too sweet, not too thick. Easy to consume for 7%. 3.6

12 oz. bottle. Pours a rich, dark brown with very little head. Heavy malt on the nose and a thick caramel flavor. Not the best, not the worst. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aroma - sweet malt Appearance - very dark brown body, good nucleation, unfiltered. Huge beige head over 2" and settles very slowly. Taste - sweet caramel malt, carmalized sugar, some adjunct spice. There is a bit of a molasses flavor as well. Palate - approaching full bodied, creamy texture, average carbonation, and short finish of some sweet malt.

A subdued aroma of a malt and fruit, pours a dark brown color without much of a head. Flat beer with a malt and fruit taste with a hint of bourbon. Watery feel and a malt finish.

09/30/14 and 01/30/15, assuming born on and best by dates. This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a mostly dark brown color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about thirty seconds leaving some light stringy lacing sliding here and there. The smell had some light sweet prune, light roasty nuts and sweet brown sugar with a light breadiness. The taste was mainly sweet malty taking the roasty nutty part to lighten a bit. A light sweet prune aftertaste is there that lead to a semi - sweet / dry finish. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was pretty mild and light. I get it, itís okay even if past itís due date a bit. Overall, though I had it past itís prime, Iíd say itís still worthy of having again. And would definitely welcome fresher next time.
