walter (359), Staunton, Virginia, USA Dec 10, 2007 Deep brown with offwhite head. Aroma is mostly roasted grain, with a nice touch of sweetness a la fruitcake or brownies or something, and a bit of lingering sour fruit. Flavor is again mostly roasted malt, sweet but not too sweet, a touch chalky, which is welcome. Finish is creamy and a little sweet. Really nicely done, and I’m glad this is down around 6%-- it’s hard work plowing through those 10% winter warmers!
Ungstrup (11385), Frederiksberg, Denmark Sep 16, 2008 Bottled. A deep red beer with a lazing tan head. The aroma has notes of metal, roasted malt, berries, and alcohol. The flavor is sweet malty with primary notes of berries, leading to a dry and slightly bitter finish. The body is thin. Thanks Papsoe for sharing. blklab2007 (570), Connecticut, USA Jul 22, 2008 bottle poured into an English pint has a cola brown color and a thin white head that fell quickly. aroma has roasted caramel malt, dark fruit, faint chocolate, and a little cherry cordial. mouth feel is medium light with flat carbonation. flavor has a muddle of caramel and chocolate malt, faint fruit, a little off yeast, and a touch of bitters. finish is flat with a washed out flavor. there is a little mis match of flavors here that is a little off. Beerman6686 (780), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 11, 2008 Poured a cloudy brown color with an off white head. Aroma is of roasted malts, some fruits? and nuts. Flavor is very malty with some spices hidden within. Imaena (259), Portland, Maine, USA Jul 9, 2008 Bottle Bangor 08’.
Deep ruby brown pour with little head development. Oak, soft choc, and malts. Thin in the finish. I also got this off season at a discount. Not a 20$ case discount like below though. jmm635 (80), Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 7, 2008 Very average beer . . . Not a particularly appealing appearance or smell. Tastes a little like chocolate. Would probably be a good winter beer, unfortunately I had it in July.
