Commercial Description:
It is a Belgian-style Pale Ale with an American twist. It is brewed with pale, carahell, and wheat malts, and hopped with centennial and Cascade hops to give it a distinctly American character. The medium bodied beer has a crisp palate and moderate bitterness coupled with the fruity esters from the abbey yeast strain. It is bottle and keg conditioned so expect a tall fluffy head and a small amount of sediment. Recipe by brewer, Jeff Musselman.

On Tap at the Brewery. One of the nicer versions of a Belgian Pale Ale I’ve come across. Pours a murky orange color with a fluffy white head. Aroma is citrus hops, Belgian yeast fruitiness, some earthy notes, some lime peel. Really smells nice. Flavor is very earthy, citrus, Belgian yeast, a touch sweet, a touch bitter, yet very crisp for all of that. This is a nice beer.

Time for a break from inputting old ratings to have a beer...

7/25/2009: Weyerbacher Zotten ("fools") Belgian-Style Pale Ale has deep tropical fruits, some banana, spices (clove), sourdough, bubblegum, and dried flowers. It pours nearly perfectly into my Unibroue tulip glass - hazy golden-copper color with a finger and a half of mostly lasting, fluffy off-white foam on top. This beer is fairly thick and heavy for the style, but packs quick a bit of flavor into the airy texture. The beer tastes grassy, dry and a bit metallic in the front. The flavors softs to hay and doughy fruit in the middle. The finish is herbal and bitter with some prickly peppercorn as well. This beer has a faily low amount of alcohol, but it seems to go straight to the head! The verdict overall is that this is a good beer, but Belgians aren’t quite my thing...

12 Fl. Oz. bottle (Bottle Conditioned / 6% Alc. by Vol.) from Tmoney99. Thanks Tom! Rating #95 for this beer.

12 oz. bottle from Belmont Party supply. Pours a hazy dark orange amber color with a large, yet fleeting, white head. The aroma is dusty pale malt, yeast, wheat grass, moderately sweet caramel, fruity, bubble gum and slightly spicy. The first taste yields a base that is whole wheat bread with a splash of honey and caramel. The peppery spices, bubble gum, citrus and earthy hops add subtle nuances to this beer. Finish is spicy and somewhat bitter. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation and very drinkable. I was surprised by the complexity of this one.

Draft at Max’s, Baltimore. Orange-brown color. Big, healthy head. Dry astringency in the aroma. Nice and bitter, with what tastes like some amber malt to balance and complement. Sweet and hoppy, with some interesting yeasty funkiness. Captures some Belgian qualities. Sweet and sugary finish. Complex and pretty good.

Pour was a honey brown, nice two fingered head and lacing prominent. The aroma and flavor was grainy with some fruit and wheat notes. A lot of grain like malt, some mild hay and a decent bitterness. A fair amount of clove and yeastiness. Some moderate bitterness...but I never would have guessed Cascade and Centenniel hops. Doesn’t have the prominent American hop flavor of some of these crossover attempts, but that was a good thing for me. This was more subtle and pretty well done, if you ask me. Worth a try.

12 oz bottle from EZ Liquors. Pours a god looking cooper/orange bdy sitting underneath a giant foamy white head that lasts and leaves nice lace on my Hennepin glass.Aroma is lots of yeast up front, tropical fruit, over ripe banana, bubble gum and slight dusty grains. Super bubbly body with a medium mouthfeel and a dry metalic finish. Flavor is slightly spicey, yeast, grass and some citrus rind. Not sure Im really into this whole American hops Belgian yeast crossover that seems to be popping up.

Bottle. Pours an orangish amber with a dense head and aromas of light hops and oranges and caramel. Flavor is very sweet and spicy. Lots cloves and pepper with a bit of sweet honey and caramel. Abbey like yeastiness to it with a bit of banana in the finish.

Hazy golden pour. Slightly sweaty/goaty aroma. It’s a bit sweet and chewy. There is a light pale malt and a bit of strange sweetness. A bit of light herbal hoppiness. A touch of lemon and citrus with an earthy/peppery finish. It’s okay... sort of rustic.
