3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 heavy (1954) - Split, CROATIA - JUN 27, 2011
0.75 l bottle courtesy of Marko, huge thanks for sharing this one. It poured darker brown body with nice thick legs. Strong aromatic caramel, raisins and honey aroma. Sweet. Flavor was pretty much different, strangely sour beyong that honey and oak domination, seeming cheesy and artificial, though I admit it’s not. Finishes shortly and sharply with acidic note left while slowly warming. Not bad, but I wasn’t that impressed at all.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 fiulijn (12179) - Malmö, DENMARK - JUN 16, 2011
Courtesy of Marko; handbottle The color is dark brown, possibly the darkest Mead I ever had. The aroma is mellow, mature, with raisins; and mild wood. The body is bold; the flavor has a lot of raisins, very close to a Porto wine; it’s very sweet but not syrupy; there is a good degree of acidity and a nice fruity presence (berry juice); the final has a very light astringency, perceived on the teeth; the alcohol comes through, clearly, warming, but well blended. Excellent. It crosses styles with Pedro Ximénez wines (the raisin character) and Porto wines.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Marko (3611) - Split, CROATIA - MAR 16, 2011
Bottle from the Weyn’s in Leuven. Poured a dark amber-brown body. Complex nose, prošek, raisins, dried figs, sweet and lovely. Prošek in the taste again, carob, vinuous acidic notes, near the finish. Full body. Cherries dipped lightly in alcohol (not much of it but is still warming near the end). Ok, this owns. More complex than I thought it would be and well worth the price (13 Euros? not sure)

75 cL bottle, thanks to MiP, came as Weyn’s mede hydromel. Pours dark brown with bobbly off-white head. Thick chocolate, alcohol, dark honey accent and spiced aroma. Sweet fruity and honey flavoured, slight woody and cane sugarish turn into a sweet and lingering finish. Ends with a light fruity and canesugarish finish. Lovely!

Bottle, from a shop in Antwerpen. Jet Black, no head or condition. Big sweet honeyed nose with obvious alcohol and herbal liquorice that becomes slightly tarry, honey sweet and fruity but quite soft in the mouth with a tart edge and quite apparent alcohol, long sticky sweet honeyed finish with some smokey burnt notes and retronasal alcohol

Bottled. Big thanks to mip who brought this to Göteborg.
Chestnut colour. There are notes of tar, alcohol and cherry-wine. Old-ish mouthfeel with notes of(sour-sweet) cherries. Alcohol is not at all sensed in flavour. Body was thin to medium.

"Meer dan 8 jaar oud " means "over 8 years old"
Dark brown, coca-cola colour, clear. Very aromatic, vinous & portlike aroma (like cask-drawn port), Brasil nuts & raisins. Very sweet taste, honey, very nice slightly sourish edge, touches of mint and lemon, vintage Marssala wine + grapes. Full bodied, slick, oily MF; long sweet aftertaste. Definitely a better, very complex one in the Weyn’s range. I wonder what this would reveal after some real lenghty oak-lagering. That might be very serious stuff.
