Cask-condtioned at Penderal’s Oak (JDW), Holborn October 2011. Near black with a slight, off-white head. Sweet, powdered milk chocolate, camp coffee and truffles., with a vaguely bitter finish. Too sweet for me.

On cask @ the Stockbridge Tap. General impression is that this was a stout with a lovely treacle aroma. The taste was a bit short in the mouth but it is very low in alcohol, so overall quite impressed.

Full flavoured treacle toffee ale, so much so it is like eating the very sweets it copies.

Liberty Bounds Spoons. Clear deep red - brown beer. Tidy tan head. Smooth semi dry palate. Moderate carbonation. Good toffee and indeed, treacle. Medium sweet. Dark chocolate underneath. Sublte red fruits. Quite well joined up, finishes smooth. Decent.

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Cask, The Larry (JDW), Nuneaton. Black with tan rim. Heavily fudgy nose nothing like beer but hugely sniffable nonetheless. Immediate, palate-crushing toffeeness like Eclairs, Toffos. Sour Duchesse De Bourgogne underrcurrents. Long gone. Undrinkably, red wine sour. All the better for being a bit off?

Wetherspoons Stockton. If you like tia maria then you will like this. Smells and tastes of tia maria just thinner. Like a lot of novelty beers - it is ok for one but no more.

[Cask at the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading] Chestnut-black with a large tan head and a slight fizz. Chocolate, caramel and vanilla throughout. Maybe a hint of liquorice too. A little roastiness prevents it from being too sweet and sticky. A decent pudding beer, but I don’t think you’d want to drink pints of the stuff! Nevertheless, I rather enjoyed it.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Hand pulled cask at several Spoons pubs during the 2011 Autumn beer festival. Almost black with a tan head. Treacle and toffee sum this beer up and it manages to be a very drinkable brew. Just enough body and hops to stop it becoming cloying. I particularly enjoyed it with one of Wetherspoons legendary sticky toffee puddings.

On cask at Crosse Keys JDW, London. Pours black with a tan head, strong sweet aroma, linctus aftertaste. Good stuff but very sweet and 1 is enough.

Cask in the Metropolitan, JDW Fest 2011. Very dark brown. Nose is pretty amazing. Beautiful sugary toffee and caramel aroma. Taste is much more buttery caramel, with some hop bitterness.
