2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Cask at Hamilton Hall, JDW, London. Pours perfectly clear gold with a fine, foamy white head. Light pale malt nose with hints of tangy lemon. Light sweet flavor, some doughy white bread, citric bitterness, some hay. Light bodied with soft carbonation. Simple finish, some dried straw and biscuity pale malts, hints of lemon. Very basic and slightly lacking in condition.

Cask at JDW Charlie Hall; clear amber pour with white head head, standard bitter uninspiring not much flavour going on.

1.8 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Cask @ Back of Beyond. Very cloudy, slight vinegar smell. Almost the end of the barrel, at a guess. Tastes a little better than it looks and smells, but it also doesn’t seem like it would have been that exciting when it was fresh on.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Tasted this in the Salt Cot, Saltcoats (JDW) in February 2013. Cask, handpump dispense. Opaque pale amber in colour with a thin white head. Crisp green apple note present in the very short aroma. Very poor lacing and thin resiny mouthfeel. Pale malt base gives a weak digestive biscuit base with a slight residue of gooseberry - all difficult to detect though. Dusty hop presence noted in the brief aftertaste but even this is fleeting. Finish is 50/50 so balanced overall but it really begins to run out of steam. A poor session bitter and one to miss. How is it some breweries can make bitters around 3.7 - 3.8 that have bags & bags of flavour Theakstons for example and others such as this, seem to skimp on the basics.

JDW, Rochester. Smooth with a cobweb roasty note that adds interest to an otherwise bland drink.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Cask conditioned handpump Cordwainer Northampton 10/01/ This is supposed to be February’s special but appears to be out already. It’s golden with a white head. It has a sweet and fruity aroma with hints of tropical fruits and cereal. The fruitiness isn’t too bad but all in all it’s way too safe of flavour.
