COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle; Pasteurised.
NOTE: Only the bottled version of this beer is brewed at Broughton. The cask version is brewed at Whim (which is under the same ownership). Ratings for the cask version should be entered there.
Ingredients: Pale, Crystal and Black Malts; Northdown hops.
Deep reddish amber in colour, with a thick creamy head and delightful hop aroma. On the palate, it is predominantly dry, though the malt character is evident in flavour and body, and it finishes with a long-lasting and pleasant hop bitterness.

Nice reddish brown body with a good glow and a nice buttered bread-colored fluffy head that's not too big but sizeable. Slow to recede and laces nicely. The aroma is cherries and wood. More of the same in the flavor. A little sweet caramel up front, but the finish is shockingly dry. A little tea lingers. The mouthfeel is surprisingly creamy for a 5% beer. Very attractive and tactily pleasant beer, but lacks a bit in the flavor.

Medium bodied English ale with an early sweetness that dies away, leaving a dry, smoky, mild dark roasted flavor with moderate bitterness to close out the beer; Sweet and candylike nose; Dark amber color; Tan head has solid retention and lacing

fairly malty aroma, however very faint malt taste, a bit watery with a bitter finish, not bad, but no reason to go out of your way for it.

Poured a caramel brown with a decent frothy head. Has a nice malt backbone with a bit of grape. Finishes nicely. Very good.

Had this at the Bon Vivant Market Beer Lovers Club on 1-30-04 but I needed a bottle of it to get a more firm handle on this. Pours a ruby brown mix with a foamy tan head. The head looks like tan sea foam. Nose is malt and hops with some sweet notes. Very creamy mouthfeel with a spicy sweet tongue. Malts, some spice, and hops seem to form the basis of the taste of this one. Very drinkable and smooth, but a strong ale at 5%? Good beer and worth trying.

Deep reddish brown body with a light tan frothy head that lasted. Good lacing. Malty and caramel aroma. Flavor was a sweet, spicy treat. Very good.

Poured a deep amber color with ahuge tan head that was very determined to stick around and when it did subside a bit it clung desperately to the sides of the glass. Aroma was very malty with some bready tones as well. flavor was sweet malt to start then took abit of a turn towards a sour bitter finish. Started out very nice but i must say faded in the end. Overall not a bad beer and thanks to harlequinn for the recomendation.

A very typical strong ale, the taste is reminiscent of old speckled hen, with a bold malt character that is lightly buttery, with a bit of honey but turns sour in the aftertaste. The palate is just too contrasting, and unbalanced.
