Pours a cloudy orangey/amber with almost no head. Aroma is grapefruit and faint malt. Flavour is grapefruit, sweet malt and a grapefruit like bitterness. Decent fruit beer though Iíve always liked grapefruit so Iím not sure if that makes me biased.

355 ml bottle from LCBO (part of BC Craft Brewers Sampler). Pours a murky copper colour with modest-sized, cream-coloured head. Aroma is sweet caramel and grapefruity fruitiness. Flavour is fairly sweet with caramel and a candied fruitiness that bears a passing familiarity with grapefruit. A little syrupy in the mouth. Itís different enough to be mildly interesting and not revolting but not something Iíd revisit soon.

330 mL bottle. Muddy orange-brown with very little head. Not much to look at. The aroma is mostly sweet brown-sugary malt, with a little grapefruit in the back. Each of these things is very distinctive and separate - almost as though Iím smelling two different beers. The flavour is pretty simple, and a little sweet. First the caramel of the malt, then the grapefruit. Again, very separate, with nothing else there. Needs to be a little drier, though - too sweet to be refreshing, which is the only reason to drink a fruit beer.

Bottle 330ml LCBO
Aroma: malty with off fruity bitterness, backing grapefruit freshness. Backing with fishier fruity hoppy blend.
Look: thick haze on darker amber. Light top, white.
Taste: medium lighter bodied with thin walls. Lower carbonation. Plenty of unrefined sugars with caramel approach. Mild grapefruit behind. Too sweet to finish.

330 mL bottle from LCBO served cold in a tulip glass, post of the BC craft beer mixer. Cloudy deep amber with a nice tan head. Lots of pink grapefruit juice, a bit of toffee and caramel way beyond that, yup, thatís it. Medium body, relaxed effervescence. More sweet grapefruit juice, lacks any grapefruit bitterness, odd, some caramel and toffee; dry with minimal bitterness and a decent caramel and toffee finish. Breeds more bitterness.

Pours dark golden with slight head. Aroma has good citrus and grapefruit notes. Taste is a bit syrupy but still has a medium-strong bitterness and comes off like a hoppy west coast fruit ale.

Slightly cloudy orange colour with a 2 second head that leaves no trace. Aroma is weak, indistinct malt with just barely a hint of spice and the grapefruit I expected. Light with bubbly champagne-like effervescence, taste is same as aroma slightly sweet with a little grapefruit sourness for the finish. Iíve had better grapefruit flavours in beers that had no grapefruit in them. Big Meh.

Not sure whatís happening in BC but in Ontario every brewery is stumbling over themselves to make "the" fruit beer of the summer. This puppy pours dark with a thin cap that fades quicker than an NDP lead in a bc election. But like the BC liberals, this fruity sweetness is both cloying & a bit off. Sure, like the voters in BC, I will drink this kool aid (its one bottle in a 6 pack sampler for Ontario drinkers) but I surely wonít ask for seconds (let alone thirds).

Papillon (363) - Sudbury, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 17, 2013
330 mL Bottle. Murky gold body with a scant head that immediately dissipates. Aroma of cereal grains, wet cardboard, hay, and a hint of barnyard; pretty stinky really. This beer certainly does not live up to its "labeling" as a Grapefruit Ale. It tastes more like a mix of plum baby food and plum sauce with a matching aftertaste and linger. Is it really that bad or was it just a bad batch?

Eructoblaster (2852) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 16, 2013
Bottle - 330ml. Hazy amber body with a fair off-white bubbly head. Fresh, well balanced, but rather thin malty/hoppy aroma with grapefruit and bready hints. Taste is dominated by malty flavors. It carries flowery, bready, and fruity notes. Ends with a short bittersweet finish. Boring.
