2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 fiulijn (12179) - Malmö, DENMARK - MAR 14, 2012
Draught at Malone’s Urban Drinkery, Vancouver Dark amber color, with thin head. Buttery hazelnut aroma. Ordinary amber, with walnut oil and, I presume, walnut artificial flavor; ordinary bitterness, some of it comes from the roasted malts. Not disgusting, but fake, like a muffin at Starbucks.
1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 Oakes (10941) - Savusavu, FIJI ISLANDS - DEC 26, 2011
Amber. Not much head. Big artificial chestnut and vanilla aroma. More fake stuff in the palate with a thin body. Just terrible stuff, like they dumped a bunch of syrup from that coffee shop into a crappy amber. That is no way to make a beer.
2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 DuffMan (5192) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - DEC 21, 2012
Bottle. This should be re-named Starbucks Toffee Nut Syrup Ale, as it is redolent in that fake extract/aldehyde kind of flavoring. The aroma is especially fake. The caramel malt body is more tame with respect to the fakeness, but too sweet and thin regardless. Not my thing. Boo.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Beershine (5173) - The Sunshine State, Florida, USA - DEC 24, 2011
Draft @ Malones. Amber red chestnut auburn. Horribly artificial aroma like coffee syrup. This smells like something to pour over cake. Potentially delicious flavor in a dessert sense, but not in beer format. Flavor is sweet dessert syrup for ice cream and coffee. Not a real chestnut beer like the Italians can make.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 reebtogi (3262) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - NOV 12, 2012
650ml bottle pours amber in color with a 2 finger white head that leaves some nice lacing on the glass. Caramel is huge on the nose with this brew with some nutty notes as well. Taste is a bold caramel malty sweetness with some nutty undertones and a mild hop bitterness. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. A really nice brew that is just right for the upcoming season. Quite tasty and easy to drink.
2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20 pintbypint (1975) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 11, 2013
650ml brown bottle. Dark amber pour, clear. Small white head. Nose is quite sweet, lots of toffee/caramel. Taste is pretty straightforward with sweet brown sugar, caramel and toffee, syrupy. Some grassy notes at the end and some light bitterness. Medium bodied, average carbonation. Too sweet and artificial tasting. Tough to get through even half of the bomber.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Powertrip (999) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - OCT 22, 2011
Single bottle purchased at a Liqour Store in Squamish, BC on 10/22/2011. Colour: Medium-Dark Brown with medium white head. Nose: Huge doses of chocolate covered cherry. Fresh cedar planks. Melted Butter... faint coffee. Taste: Medium-light sweet, light bitter, light sour. A sweetness that comes on strong but quickly vanishes. Cherry and nuts - but thank goodness there is very little evidence of chestnut - because I tried roasted chestnuts at a Christmas market in Germany once, and they were the most putrid thing I have ever eaten.
Interesting, if not quirky.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Lagerboy (666) - British Columbia, CANADA - OCT 26, 2011
Deep clear copper with a foamy beige head which slowly disipates. Nose is caramel and toasty nutty malts. Lots of flavors here; caramel, some vanilla and coffee, toasted nuts, robust malt with some suttle underlying hoppiness. Softly carbed with a nice clean finish. Whistler Brewing is 2 for 2 with their session ales.
3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 JHunter (626) - British Columbia, CANADA - OCT 20, 2011
Pours a medium copper / brown colour with a off white head. Aroma is super strong vanilla stands out the most for me then caramel and a hint of nuts. Taste is super super sweet and rich with a nice nuttiness. Good beer to keep warm wit on a cold fall day. I would suggest sharing a 650ml bottle as by the time i was finished i was a bit much
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 GothGargoyle (570) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - DEC 4, 2011
Clear reddish amber. Aroma is caramel, chestnut. Light bodied. Quite sweet - almost sickly, with chestnut and toffee flavours. I consider this a novelty beer.
