2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Amazed to find this in a small grocer’s in an isolated corner of the West Islands while on holiday. Haven’t had it in over 20 years.
Looks decent in the class. Fairly yellowy brown with lots of old school frothy head and beaucoup de clingy lacing.
A malty toffeeness with a trace of metallic to taste. Bit tired. Not dynamic but not unpleasant either.Thin, little stuffing.
A blast from the past and a reminder of how much bottle beer has improved here.

I’ve tried both the British and American versions and the American version is far better. This version is a cloudy reddish-gold with a medium-sized off-white head. Aroma is sweet malt, and floral hops. The flavour is mildly malty with a medium bitter finish.

2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Bottle @ random bar. I asked for the stout but I am pretty sure that this is what I got. Clear amber with a white head. Malty, pale, cheaper, more iron, odd lingering spices, almost mint and mineral bitter aftertaste, quite odd and off-putting, bitter and a touch of not the finest hops. Lighter bodied. Not too good.

Hmm... moderate, at most... below average, for certain. Had it, chalking it off the list.

Not sure if this is beer or I should rate the USA pale ale. Last time I had this a while back I think it was the imported one from the UK. I remember it being an nice bitter with a hop bite at the end. Serving: Bottle
