3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a dark orange. Aroma has a pleasing hit of sawdust. No Belgian aroma but a touch of citrus. That citrus extends to the taste where you get a minor hit of the Belgian notes. Bitterness is very low. This is the April 2012 Batch one bottle. Love that the bottle is labeled like that.

White grape and pear nose with apricot accents. Clear amber, medium head, good lacing. Dry, light funk, apple core and grape seeds, lemon zest. Really wanting in sweetness.

22oz bottle in a tulip. Pours cloudy golden with a lacy, off-white head. Aroma of caramel malts, spicy yeast, and a decent amount of floral hops. Flavor the same. Average texture. A pretty good Belgian-style ale.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Amber pour with a moderate, dense white head. Aroma is strong yeast, fruit notes, spicy hops and soft earthiness. Taste is big spicy and floral hops up front, and ripe fruit, powdery yeast, soft grains and toasted malt rounding it out. Body is light-medium and extremely carbonated and effervescent. Ends with more spicy hops, flowery notes, light grass, soft earthiness, dried fruit, toasted malt and powdery yeast.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
New Beer Distributors, NY 650ml ($7.50): Pours a light amber/orange with way, way too much head and fizz (this beer done been in my fridge for a few days, so it ain’t been shaken up much). Aroma is fruity and slightly boozy. Taste is kind of lacking. There is an underlying dryness, but it doesn’t seem to have much to underlie. In a sense, this is almost tasteless. There is barely any sugar, barely any hops, and definitely no funk. I don’t know what White Birch is good at, but they should stick to that.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft today @ White Birch and a few times in a bottle. This is my overall impression after many samples. Aroma was Belgian yeast, lemon and grassy hops. Flavor has mild Belgian yeast that is easy on your palate. Pale malts, grassy shops add some light bitterness, and just enough malt to give some sweetness into the finish. The batches have seemed to vary slightly. This batch has a bit more lemon citrus then I remember. The last bottle I sampled had a slightly bigger hop profile with more spiciness. One thing that has been constant from my notes is the lively, effervescence in the mouthfeel. Overall a light and easy to drink Belgian.

Bottle 80 of 463
A: Very hazy yellow color with a thick, enormous white head that plasters the glass with sticky lacing.
S: Herbal, floral, spices, tea, pears.
T: The taste is not as bold as I would like. It’s rather mild, actually, but with a fair amount of complexity about it. The hop profile is subdued, as are the fruit and spice aspects. Overall, I could use a bolder flavor. The flavors are inviting, I just wish they were bigger and/or more prominent.
M: The body is somewhat thin with a very dry finish.
D: A decent beer, but not one I would seek out. The authentic examples of this style still reign supreme.
