Two mash tuns, two sparge arms and one boil kettle. Add in 80lbs of grain and 35 gallons of water to achieve 20 gallons of beer. To balance it out, 175 IBUs. No question, this is an absolutely insane way to make a beer. It took all day, but we love the result. We won’t make a beer this way again and hope you enjoy this limited unique offering.

Bottled 9/8/2010 Batch one Pours a solid black color with a smallish khaki head that shows moderate retention and minimal lace. Smells of tart pitted fruit, roasted grains, chalk, hints of earthy hops, alcohol, caramel and chocolate. Odd combination of smells wafting from my glass, but I should be used to that after these past few years of White Birchin’ it. The taste is much better than I would have imagined based on the aroma. Thick milk chocolate and coffee with hints of tart berries with a bit of earthy hops as well as a touch of ethanol. Thick viscous body with a creamy mouthfeel and a light level of carbonation. The longer I let this sit the better the aroma gets, but it was weird at first. This tastes pretty damn good after a year, but I think it was better fresh. Nice Stout, too bad it was my last bottle.

Tasted on 7/27/11 from a 22oz bottle, thanks to ryan585. Pours midnight black with an average tan head that slowly recedes to spotty, thick lace. The nose is dark chocolate, coffee, dark malt, and an interesting aroma that I associate with artificial berry flavoring, like blueberry Jolly Ranchers. The flavor is pretty much the same, but with the fake blueberry coming through as strangely acidic. The body is full with light carbonation and a long dark chocolate and bitter coffee finish.
