3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 jtclockwork (5099) - , New Jersey, USA - FEB 9, 2011Bottle 54 of 76. Burgundy pour. Nose of rye, malt, tart fruit and yeast. Taste is rye, cranberry candy, yeast and sweet malts. Lightly tart. Tasty, just not very sour. Some very minor plastic and band aid notes, but they are in the very deep background. The rye and cranberry notes really stick out. Beer gets a little more tart as it gets deeper down the bottle.

Bottle shared by mixylplik3 at his going away party, thanks for the opportunity Matt!
Pours a lightly hazy reddish brown color with a thin off white head that dissipates quickly. Smells of sweet brown sugar, caramel, light sweet fruit, and a spicy tartness that seems to overpower my nostrils. The flavor holds some fruity malty sweetness up front but that is assaulted by a spicy tartness fills my palette. It feels like a sour ale in your mouth but if you study it closely its a tartness from the rye, I think. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet tarts kind of mouthfeel going on. This is an interesting beer, it is certainly very different. It is a bit one dimensional without the barrel aging. The barrel aged version of this is incredible for my meager palette, this one is just good.

Bottle sample. Pours brown with a medium sized beige head. The aroma is buttery toffee, herbal, solvent, sour fruits and just kind of strange. The flavor had much of the same; a strange combination of buttery toffee, sour fruits, solvent, herbal notes and spicy rye that ultimately doesn’t work very well together.

Sampled at DLD 2011. Holy fuck. Why what the fuck happened here. Brown pour with an off white head. Aroma of nail polish remover, sugar, some berries and vinegar. Flavor is worse. Straight nail polish remover and ethanol. I can’t get over how bad this was. Slick mouthfeel, plenty of carbonation. Blech. Glad I got to try this before I made the mistake of trading of it.

750 bottle #155/240-thanks jtclockwork for sharing-pours a dissipating tan head and red/copper color. Aroma is wood/grain alcohol/rye, dry yeast. Taste is tart-cranberry, vinegar/some acetone, medium malt/rye/grain-some caramel/vanilla.

Thanks to rpstevens for sending this out my way. Shared at a recent DC tasting and served in a SAVOR snifter.
Pour brings a moderate brown color with a very thin off-white head. No real lacing to speak of. The nose brings forward a bit of lemon rind and a touch of rye. There’s a moderate sourness there as well. Some stone fruits and a touch of spice as well. Taste is mostly lemon peel and mild sourness plus a touch of light spice. Mouthfeel is fairly acidic and dry. Pretty good.

murky tan, strong lemon cream nose, harsh sour. Warmer flavor, red berries and sugar, bit of vinegar and so some light aceto-burn. Too much contrast between mouth and nose. thin finish.

Red brown pour. All I get on the nose is alcohol. Fruity flavor maybe cherry. Good amount of sourness. Some bourbon. Not bad.

Bottle. Pours hazy amber with a medium, fizzy beige head, medium retention with light lacing. Aroma and flavor are heavy malt (bread, cookie, toast), floral and citrus hops, peach, oak, fig, smoke, and acetic acid. Medium body, warmth, and carbonation with a fizzy and biting finish.

651mL thanks to Thorpe429. Everyone was complaining, "Oh no, not another infected White Birch beer." But this is clearly meant to be sour, or at least the label was changed last minute once they figured out it had soured. Actually, this beer reminded me a lot of Cigar City Sea Bass. Obviously not well integrated and struggling to fit into a style, but very interesting. The deep, hazy, amber pour gives you some sticky tan lace. Nose is odd: old caramel, brown sugar, old candies. Taste is lemony tart, spicy sour, lemon tea, tannic, dry, spicy rye. Very mineral heavy with some seriously high carbonation.
