Cask at the Wellington; clear straw yellow pour with a thin white head, aroma has pale malts, sweet caramel and light citrus, taste has washed out malts, some lemon and biscuit.

Cask at the Bedford Arms, Bedford. Copper/amber, slightly hazy with a bit of natural head. Aroma of caramel, crystal malt, raisins. A sweet fruit/malt taste is met with an astringent bitter. The bitter seems to win. Nice but the balance is a bit off. Palette is quite thin for an ESB. Aftertaste is bitter bordering on acrid. I like this beer one minute, and dislike it the next. While I must applaud its tenacity, it’s unbalanced and unsure of itself. A good enough drink but one is enough.

Cask@lychgatetavern, wolverhampton. Golden ale, large head with good lacing. Slight hop aroma. Taste is mild hops and a little sweet. Uninspiring stuff.

Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Gold with slight head. There was a heavy caramel sweetness from the start with this, heavyish and just a little overwhelming. The hops never really came through.

Cask conditioned handpump Red Well Wellingborough 08/01/13. A golden beer with a whitish head and lace. A sweet golden with some sickly notes. A bit of pineapple. Quite pronounced flavours which don’t totally gel but it’s nice enough.

Bottle at Chriso’s. Fruity, wild aroma, funk. This is off. Sour, dry, yeasty, it almost works and becomes Orval, but not quite.

Bottle at Chris O’s pre GBBF shindig. Orange/gold pour with a white head. Nuts, citrus aroma. Citrus flavour. Quite dry. Not bad.

Bottle at chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig ’11. It pours cloudy orange-yellow, with a lot of suspended sediment. The nose is tangerine, orange, lime and sourness. The taste is tangerine, orange pith, white bread, sourness, tangy lemon and that’s pretty much it. I imagine it is not meant to sour, but this probably improved the flavour anyway...
