Mouth filling malt characters and a beautiful fruit driven complexity derived from the open fermenters, mix this with a reassuring bitterness from some aromatic hops and we reckon the result is a delightfully scrumptious ale!

Not a bad drop, very smooth and with a mild aroma. Flavours of nut and burnt toffee, go and buy it.

BOTTLE 33 CL. Clear chestnut brown, big beige head. Brown malts aroma, sweet dark bread - kind of like panettone crust - and citrus hops. The taste is similar - dark sweet toasted bread, moderate zesty hops. Simple, yet nice and balanced.

Dark bodied pour with small wispy, airy head. Roast grains at the forefront, faintly in the aroma, stronger in the taste. Reminiscent of a German Schwartz or dunkel lager.

330ml bottle into glass. Acidic malt aroma. Opaque dark brown beer with scummy off white head. Medium body with slight zingy feel. Toasty malt finish, slightly acidic. Not the best, one is enough.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown almost black, with a red hue. Aroma. Has a nice sweet hazelnut aroma. Taste. Roasted malts, backed by a bit of sweetness and an espresso like bitterness.

Keg - Poured a mahogany brown with slight red hues and a lasting, creamy off-white one-finger head atop. Nutty, toffee malts with some dark fruit tang and a dark choccy, coffeeish bitterness. Light to medium body, medium carbonation with a medium intensity, moderate length bitterness in the finish.

This was the first dark ale I ever tried and so I have a soft spot for it but have gone on to enjoy other beers more. It has a pleasant aroma of roasted malts and caramel when you first open the bottle, however it has little aroma in the glass. It pours a dark orange/brown with a medium tan head that fades, with some lacing in the glass. It has a rather thin feel as you drink and a simple but very pleasant taste of roasted malts. My overall score may be a little biased.

Pretty subdued for a dark ale, smooth and easy to drink, pretty high carbonation without much head retention, not bad, prefer a bit more oommf, tho admittedly haven’t yet gained a taste for stout or the burnt characteristics and in this one it is a bit subdued for better or worse. A little fruit in the aroma, lets say guava and pomegranate.
