Strykzone (903), Wood River, Illinois, USA May 11, 2008 A big tan "lumpy" head sits atop a nice cloudy brown body. A very nice big nose of dark fruit that includes cherry and raisin. There is clearly a lot of alcohol present. Complex tastes of fruit, maple, oak, alcohol, and toffee. Very effervescent and creamy in the mouth. A very interesting beer. I would have preferred a lower ABV.
MartiniFiend (70), Mount Horeb, Wisconsin, USA Jun 16, 2008 Bottle. Pours black with no head.Strong malted barley aroma with undertones of wood and honey with a little alcohol. Nice and thick to the palate.Flavor has a malty start with a wood % alcohol middle with a semi sweet finish. It’s almost as good as the traditional Brackett. Skyview (2693), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Oct 30, 2007 Picked up single 12-oz bottle from Ryan’s Wines in Madison, Wisconsin. Pours a cloudy caramel brown brew with no head except for a thin film on top. Aroma of dark fruits, aged oak, some vanilla, honey and a touch of toffee. Taste is semi-sweet, no carbonation, slightly syrupy, with flavors of vanilla, burnt brown sugar, some yeast and plenty of alcohol. Finish is slightly dry with a vanilla/roasted malt aftertaste. kramer (1856), sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 21, 2007 12 oz bottle, via Ofortuna. Pours a dark ruby amber with a small covering of beige head, fairly nice retention. Nose is quite sweet with some fruitiness and honey, light yeast, and toasted malts. The flavor is quite sweet as well, with a fruity ale yeastiness. Noticable alcohol, but not over the top. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with lots of fizzy prickly carbonation. This was OK overall, but I think I’ll take my beer and my meads in seperate containers please. kmweaver (1899), Takoma Park, Maryland, USA Sep 13, 2007 12oz bottle, courtesy of kramer17801. Thanks, Jason! Pours a dark amber color; fluffy off-white head with good retention and lacing. Dense, dried dark fruits and honey in the aroma; toasty vanilla, with a decent show of alcohol. Fluffy carbonation. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: decent show of alcohol, with a dense honey character; toasty vanilla and dried fruits; surprisingly full of dark fruits; lengthy, dried dark fruits and honey on the finish; slightly rough.
