(draught keg @ The Continental Hotel , Whitsable) . This is more a rendition of a Hefeweizen than a Witbier as listed in the database . Ive got in my notes ’good take on a hef’ ,its no damn witbier.
I spent the day in this trendy but somewhat soulless seaside town on an unseasonaly hot October afternoon the other day... This is pretty slick , tick all the boxes =banana esters ,which have a rich custard like quality. Notes of clove are there ploding along . A refreshing somewhat dry ,crisp tart acidity cutting the richness is nice . A pretty decent wheat in the Germanic way.

330ml bottle. Pours a slightly hazy gold with a small head. Aroma is banana and clove. Taste has banana and lemon throughout. Spritzy body with a dry finish.

Bottle. Pours a clear, light gold with a medium, white head. Grainy malts and light, sweet citrus in the nose. Fairly sweet flavor, more grainy malts. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Finishes crisp with some fruit notes and lingering, malty sweetness. Not that good overall.

Bottle. Orange and cloudy with a small head. No carbonation and could easily pass off as a Bavarian wheat. Still didn’t like it much though.

[330ml bottle, Whitstable Oyster Fishery Restaurant] Right from the off a down the lines wheat beer - massively carbonated, with a furiously dispersing head. Counted down two inches of frothing to nothing in twenty seconds, which is quite something. A hazy orange, golden pale colour, the staple wheat beer aromas of banana, citrus and coriander are evident. The taste is bitter at first, with a sweet wheaty aftertaste and a touch of alcohol – almost spoiled by the burstingly fizzy mouthfeel, reminiscent of a sparkling wine. But it’s pretty good Weiss all considered. [21072010]

Bottle, 330ml. As I was browsing the shelves of Utobeer I spied a lonely British wheat beer. I somewhat disinterestedly spun the bottle around to read the label, expecting another Wit clone. I was however excited to find it described as a Bavarian wheat beer. Ooh, Weissbier, my favourite. So I rushed it home and this is what I found... A cloudy copper colour with a short-lived fizzy head. Aroma of orange and clove. Flavour has wheat, more orange,a little banana and some nice hop notes. It is however oddly sweet and has a mouthfeel approaching syrupy - rather unexpected. Fairly high carbonation. Not quite sure what this is - the bottle says it’s a Bavarian-style wheat (so a Hefe), Ratebeer says a Wit, I’d say in terms of taste it’s somewhere between the two. I find it both too sweet and too fizzy for my liking, so I won’t be buying this again, but it’s otherwise a fairly nice brew.

Cask (Southampton Beer Festival 2010) - Hazy golden in colour. Banana and slightly metallic element feature in the aroma. The taste is refreshing with notes of banana and lemon.

33cl bottle, The Bell & Crown, Canterbury. Poured a very cloudy yellow with a large, frothing fizzy head initially, which soon dispersed. Banana, yeast, wheat and some spice on the nose. Wheaty & yeasty flavours with a sour lemon tang and a light hop bite. Crisp and quite refreshing with medium to full carbonation and a light body.
