mdi (573), Nebraska, USA May 4, 2006 12oz bottle BB 07/14/06. Pours a bronze color. sinking off-white head leaves nice lace. Aroma of malt and citrus, something musk-like, a touch of cologne maybe. Carmel comes through. Flavor: a malty pale ale with a good dose of carmel malt, a bit bready, with some leafy hoppiness to it. Finishes with bitterness; which is nice...but the leafy aspect of the hops does stick around and becomes a little distracting. An average pale ale, that does achieve a good balance of hops & malt...but seems like something in the mix just sticks out too much in a bad way...those leafy hops...
nearbeer (1694), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Jun 28, 2009 12 oz. Clear gold-copper with a lasting half-inch of foam. Earthy grain and caramel on the nose. Flavor is caramel, grain and light citrus. Light-medium body is smooth and barely dry enough.
brewski519 (256), Morrisville, North Carolina, USA Jun 27, 2009 This inexpensive brew was picked up at Whole Foods in Charleston SC while on vacation - it poured an orangish color with a foamy white head. Plenty of lacing. Aroma of pine, citrus and mild hops. Mild taste as well - grapefruit, lemon, pine and faint hops. Decent beer but pretty meek. Drinkable however. Leighton (67), Salisbury, Connecticut, USA Jun 14, 2009 Probably the cheapest beer available in Whole Foods - and it’s damn good. Lovely light, golden brown color. Medium head. Smooth, balanced flavor. Not very pale by my estimation, but very tasty. I’ll buy this one again. daknole (2143), Plantation, Florida, USA May 27, 2009 Bottle from Whole Foods. Pours an amber color. Aroma is very malty with lots of caramel. Flavor is alos very malty. Too malty for a normal pale, but not all that bad. SudsMcDuff (1572), was CapeTown,SA-now Houston, Texas, USA May 23, 2009 Pours a dark caramel colour, lacing is top notch with low to medium head .. . light caramel and bark aroma notes .. . good in mouth, very pleasing aftertaste .. .. For being organic it is good, but at the level you would think .. . al borland, name that wood! .. . bought at whole foods in austin, first purchase of the trip!.. if you had blindfolded me and told me to guess the brewery, it would take around 500 guessess to get goose island.. .. austinites or austinians??? Sparky27 (1381), Phoenix, Arizona, USA May 13, 2009 Bottle. I saw that it was brewed by Goose Island so I had to pick one up. Pours clear dark gold with a one finger creamy white head. The nose is mainly sweet malt with a touch of earthy hops. The taste is malt, light citrus and some floral hops in the finish. Medium bodied. Meh, pretty boring but drinkable. zborgerd (185), Mchenry, Illinois, USA May 4, 2009 This is classified as an APA but it almost tastes more like an English bitter to me.
Light-medium hoppiness with a doughy maltiness that is characteristic of English pales ales such as bass or Fuller’s. Carmel / molasses smell. Slightly dry finish. At $6.99 *which is much better than any of Whole Food’s other overpriced beers) t’s actually quite a good beer and is surprisingly better than some of Goose Island’s typical "standard" beers (though one must go to the brewpubs to really appreciate the goose).
Honestly a worthwhile purchase. Nothing outstanding, but it’s a drinkable beer that could very well outdo some of the Goose Island staple in drinkability and overall flavor.
Nothing about it is truly organic if you’re drinking water from Lake Michigan. Yum! angrypirate06 (351), Texas, USA Apr 27, 2009 Lightly hazy golden brown body with a fizzy small head. Aroma of copper, light hops, caramel. Flavor of caramel, light metal taste, some astringency. Meh.
