330mL. The champion from our blind tasting. Pours a clear to near hazy amber cinnamon with a massive, rocky, tan head with excellent retention and giant, poofy lace. Aroma of cinnnamon, honey, fresh orange, citrus zest, caramel. Taste was boozy, bitter, pretty in your face, rich, some relative alcohol warming even from a measly 5.4%. Really outstanding.

Bottle. Clear amber pour with a creamy beige head that lasts. Aroma has lots of floral hops and notes of toffee, pine, citrus and lavender. Flavour is also hoppy with notes of caramel, honey, malt and citrus. Light body, smooth but slightly thin mouthfeel and a long dry and mildly bitter finish. A good APA, quite sessionable, could be more robust though.

UPDATED: APR 4, 2011 Amber, slightly cloudy. Off-white head. Cascade hops, grapefruit and heaps of malt on the nose. Stone fruits, citrus, light caramel malt. Prominent but gentle hops. [3.7]

Bottle. Clear amber light beige head that fades to a coat. Grapefruit, kumquat, a little pine, caramel aroma. Stone fruit and light caramel under citrus and pine. Bitter finish is there but less pronounced than the initial aromatics.

Pours a lovely deep amber colour with a nice off white head. whilst there is some hops on the nose with the citrus type armos expected of the style. There is also a fair amount of malt. Flavours are much the smae. Some hop bitterness but also a fair amount of malt. Mothfeel is quite heavy. Overall I really like this beer.

330ml bottle b/b 10 Apr 09. Mid bronze good head with huge bubbles. Nice earthy hop aroma with good marmalade touches. Nothing much to begin with in the mouth but grows with a nice biscuit cara malt backing and a good weigh in towards the end with the dry, raw almost cone hop feel. Nice late hop charastics with more than the normal american cascade traits. Could do a few pints of this quite nicely

330ml bottle from Dan Murphy’s. Pours golden-amber with a medium off white head that provides good lacing. Nose is perfume-like with floral and citrus hops on top of a caramel malty base. Taste is nicely balanced between the malt sweetness and hop bitterness. Finishes dry and bitter. Medium bodied with an almost creamy mouthfeel and lowish carbonation. Highly drinkable. Much better than I expected.

Bottle - Pale amber with a creamy white head. Sweet candy and flowery hop aroma. Dry Orange and flowery taste up front with a lingering bitter hop finish. Nice creamy palate.

Bottle (330ml). Poured copper with a creamy, white head which was average lasting. Good fruity hop aroma with passionfruit and grapefruit, back up by sweet biscuity malts, creamy caramel and roasted nuts. Flavor delivered a decent hop bitterness (fruity) with more passionfruit and grapefruit followed by biscuity malts, caramel, some earthy notes and a roasted nutty finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation, a dry/creamy mouthfeel and a good finish. This was a great pale ale and my favriote from the Wicked elf brewery, it seemed perfectly in-between and APA and an EPA.

One I’ve tried a few times with differing results. Definitely comes across as one that’s better quaffed fresh at the brewery as the hops don’t quite pull off what they set out to achieve.
5 on 5 for appearance. Radiant and shimmering, fiery copper body with minute flecks of proteins in suspension. Very fine, intermittent carbonation holds steady a two-finger, dense and satiny smooth, off-white crown that manages some solid lace-work. Sticky, sweet toffee and cereal-like toasted malts dominate the aroma with a grassy and citrus fruit edge. Quite grainy, dry and cereal-like on first sip. Citrus is reserved to the bitter side, like under-ripe oranges and lime zest. Assertively bitter, herbal, dry and grassy finish to it drops off without a trace. Yeasty also, mildly sulphurous but nothing too alarming. Shows good balance, a light body and moderate carbonation. Easily knock back a few without too much effort. (33cL, BB 12/12/12, Dan Murphy’s Currambine)
