Commercial Description:
Cask; Occasional. Also available bottle conditioned at 3.8%.
A full-bodied stout-like dark mild, excellent head retention, with fruit and nut flavours on the palate. The eponymous dog survived the rough seas off Hunstanton, his master the Revd Doble of Hathern drowning with his wife Violet in an attempted rescue. The double tragedy rocked the village and is commemorated by a brass plaque in the church.
Ingredients: Maris Otter pale, crystal, chocolate and whea malts. Goldings and Fuggles hops.

Cask, The Albion, Loughborough. Black with a cream head. Aromas are light roast malts with dark chocolate and liquorice. Flavours are smooth coffee with thin chocolate malts. Floral with some saltiness. Dry on the finish. A decent mild.

Bottle labelled ’Doble’s Dog’, 3.8%. Couldn’t wait to see if this beer was as atrocious as the other two WH brews I’ve just (partially) plugholed. It’s immeasurably better. Pours stout-like pitch with dirty yellow suds and lace. Aroma burnt malt and coffee over an underpinning tang of blackcurrant and hedgerow fruit. In other words, it’s a dribble-maker. More of the same in the mouth, with bags of coffee, blackberry buttery smoked malt, and a hint of dark chocolate. Tasty, assertive, well-conditioned mild, with schwarzbier leanings.

Watery beer with a slightly bitter/coffee flavour. The aroma is also lightly coffee scented. Overall a dull beer to drink.
