COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cherry Pie! Cherry Pie! Cherry Pie! At 6.6% abv this light and fruity ale is black in color, although your palate would never know it. Black Angel is fermented on the Wicked Wild yeast and then moved into stripped down Four Roses Barrels and aged on tart cherries, sweet cherries and Italian plums. The white oak and roast malt add notes of vanilla and graham-cracker that when blended with the tart sweetness of the fruit bring out this robust cherry pie flavor that is unmistakable. This sour is a beautiful marriage of fruit and beer that always leaves you wishing the glass was full.

Was afraid they only served this on Fridays, but lo and behold there it was on a Saturday afternoon. I suppose that makes up for them not actually having Dark Age tapped at 3pm on the Thursday before. Oh well. Surprisingly dark, nearly black pour with a solid little beige head. Nose of cherry skins, oak, vanilla, cocoa, and other dark malt notes. Taste shows all those dark malts balanced nicely with acetic notes and cherries. Really good, but I don’t know... almost too drinkable? Complex wasn’t necessarily a word I’d use to describe it, but I can’t complain about it either. I could drink a ton of it.

This draft brew from the brewery poured a very small sized head of foamy bubbles that were mostly diminishing and left behind a no visible carbonation opaque except at the edges dark ruby red brown colored body and a poor lacing. The complex aroma was cherry funky fruity tart and sour. The mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a strong dry aftertaste. The nice flavor contained notes of cherry hops and malt. Delicious and one I would certainly like to have again.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours near black with a brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of roasted malts with a backing sour cherry note. Flavor starts with light roasted malts wait quickly becomes full of tart cherries with a touch of funk.

Black, with a thin ring of foam. Smells like a chocolate covered cherry. Taste is more cherry and dark chocolate, plus some coffee and lemon, as well. Some unfortunate butttery notes, too, so this one may a wee bit off.
