Cherry Pie! Cherry Pie! Cherry Pie! At 6.6% abv this light and fruity ale is black in color, although your palate would never know it. Black Angel is fermented on the Wicked Wild yeast and then moved into stripped down Four Roses Barrels and aged on tart cherries, sweet cherries and Italian plums. The white oak and roast malt add notes of vanilla and graham-cracker that when blended with the tart sweetness of the fruit bring out this robust cherry pie flavor that is unmistakable. This sour is a beautiful marriage of fruit and beer that always leaves you wishing the glass was full.

A: Oaky. A bit of sweetness and a hint of cherry. A: Pours a very dark redish brown. Head has a hint of black red color. T: Tastes oaky. Cherry note is very subtle. Sourness is good. P: Solid body on the palate. Sourness is great. carbonation is good. Overall this isn’t the best showing of a cherry sour but it’s pretty solid. The oak note comes through more than the cherry note which is the opposite of what I’m looking for. The medium-heavy body also seems a little weird. Not a bad beer: worth checking out.

On tap at APEX. Pours a dark brown color with a small white head. A big woody, cherry and bourbon nose. Tartness throughout, sweet and sour dark cherry, vanilla, light roast. Very flavorful. Works pretty well. Light lactic flavors, more roast and vanilla.

Draft. Poured black color with an average fizzy off-white head that mostly lasted with very good lacing. Medium to heavy complex fruit and sour yeast aroma. Medium to abundant body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy sweet & sour flavor with a medium to heavy sour & sweet finish of moderate to long duration. Solid sour.

Bottle : Pour is cola brown , with a one fingered, yet fairly robust layered fine bubble khaki colored head into this glass. Well. This seems to be one of more revered wicked weed bottles - we’ll see how it goes. The nose is intial feint dark fruit, vanilla and earthen oak spice. The nose reveals more cherry flesh with roasty notes rounding it out. The flavor profile is initial sweet tart, with a fairly nice malt balancing act here - Cherry pie... I wouldn’t quite say that here but there is a nice bready malt presence. Cherry juice, plum is certainly here, and the barrel presence seems to work fairly well. I have to say one thing - the barrel / sweet / cherry tart / roast malt are well attuned to one another in this one, with some leather and oaked spice presence rounding things out - its one of the better mild mannered dark sour brews Ive had.

Pours dark brown to black with a decent sized mocha-khaki cap that settles, leaving a foamy ring of lacing. Nose involves coffee-roasted notes, dark berry, vinous-ness, oak, light vanilla notes, some funkiness, and cherry. LIghtly sweet, quite tart, somewhat bitter. Light to medium bodied, tannic, fair action, with a bracingly drying tart and funky finish. Very cool to try and makes me want to go back to Asheville very soon.

Dark black pour with a burnished copper tint. Two fingers of khaki tan head show with a foamy top. Sticks around for a bit. Nose shows dark fruit and cherry skins with a touch of cocoa and acidity. Cocoa nibs and wood in the flavor with a moderate acidity on the finish. Tart cherry skins and chocolate with a light body and very soft carbonation.

Bottle thanks to Bursprak! Pours a dark, almost black brown with a tiny, off white head. Aroma is sour with lots of dark berries, blackberry, raspberry, blueberries, vanilla and some oak. Taste is very sour, fruity with berryjuice. Bitter, dry wood with vanilla, bourbon and hints of some sweetness. Almost roasty at some point. Crazy oaky! Medium carbonation.

Thanks matt skilli Pours black with little etching on the surface. Some turbidity. Smells real nice with some oak, bourbon, coffee, cherry, fruit leather. Flavor is nice and tart, but so well balanced with the oak and bitterness and cherry. Dry and thin with low carb. This is a good sipper.

Bottle - sudsy black pour. Nose of dark malt, fruit and light smoke. Taste follows the nose. Cherry comes through but so does a little smokey peatiness. Likely from the barrel. Good but not great. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
