Cherry Pie! Cherry Pie! Cherry Pie! At 6.6% abv this light and fruity ale is black in color, although your palate would never know it. Black Angel is fermented on the Wicked Wild yeast and then moved into stripped down Four Roses Barrels and aged on tart cherries, sweet cherries and Italian plums. The white oak and roast malt add notes of vanilla and graham-cracker that when blended with the tart sweetness of the fruit bring out this robust cherry pie flavor that is unmistakable. This sour is a beautiful marriage of fruit and beer that always leaves you wishing the glass was full.

Was afraid they only served this on Fridays, but lo and behold there it was on a Saturday afternoon. I suppose that makes up for them not actually having Dark Age tapped at 3pm on the Thursday before. Oh well. Surprisingly dark, nearly black pour with a solid little beige head. Nose of cherry skins, oak, vanilla, cocoa, and other dark malt notes. Taste shows all those dark malts balanced nicely with acetic notes and cherries. Really good, but I donít know... almost too drinkable? Complex wasnít necessarily a word Iíd use to describe it, but I canít complain about it either. I could drink a ton of it.

Bottle shared in London - big thanks to Jack. Pours clear, rich brown with a frothy tan head. The nose has toasty brown bread, cherries, other dried fruits, a bit of wood, earth. Light-medium sweet flavor, a little oily, with burnt leaves and earth, old fruits, wood, grainy bread. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Lightly drying on the finish, mildly tannic, dried berries, some funk, sweat, mild acetic bite. Nice beer.

Bottle big thanks to Jack. It pours near black with a small tan head. The nose is juicy, jammy, cherry, candy, wood, vanilla, sticky and treacle. The taste is crisp, tart, tangy, acidic, cherry, green apple, wood, lemon sherbet and lactic, with a dry, tart finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Nice balance. Rather drinkable.

Bottle muled thanks to beechner224. Sour, very vinous, malty, sweet, darky fruity - plum like aroma. Deep dark black color with large brown head. Light sourness up front, malty, more dark fruit and vicious character, semisweet. Moderate flavors overall, could really use some more sour to balance malt and vinous character.

Appearance: A dark brown body tinged with magenta with a small, beige head.

Smell: Blistered sour and tart cherries with a firm touch of quality vinegar overlaying minor chocolate notes and a mellow roastiness.

Taste: A sustained dark maltiness with a chocolaty quality cut abruptly by a rippling acetic jolt and shot of cherry-balsamic flavor. A lone drop of vanilla, a spritz of rose water. A little leather, a little toasted tobacco. Finishes off fairly smooth and a bit vinous, even.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.

Overall: A tangy taste of Asheville, bottled for your very own pleasure.

Sample @ Wicked Weed during RBWG, Asheville. Deeo red pour with a modest white head. Big, robust cherry tart. Some hot woody booze. Similar flavor. Strong cherry meat and a bit of woody funk. Roasted malt. Medium body, soft carbonation.

Pours a rich coffee brown with a thick light tan head. Smoked malt and coffee aroma has an overtone of sour cherry. Lively, sour flavor has coffee and cherry notes, hints of coffee, and quite a sour bite! Mouthfeel is nothing special, but leaves a nice sour fruit finish. Angelic.
