COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Freak is our San Francisco inspired hoppy monster. At 8.4% abv and who knows how many ibu’s, this beer is our shrine to the Hop. Absurd amounts of all the big West Coast hops give this beer it’s citrusy weedy nose and big dank hop flavor. Drinking this beer is like stuffing your face into a bag of fresh hops while eating a tangerine. We dry hop with 48lbs per batch or over 3lbs of hops per barrel. In following with the classic style of the West Coast double sugar plays a big part in creating this dry and minimally bitter double IPA. The Freak is particularly pintable for the style, so if you dare to enter we welcome you to the Freak Show.

Very happy to try a small growler of this at Beer Study. Clean sharp yellow pour with one finger of white head. Super resinous and oily nose, there’s a mild onion/garlic component with lots of citrus. Super hoppy and resinous, pretty awesome.

On draft at Wicked Weed. Poured hazy, medium gold. Flavor of resinous pine, citrus. Medium bodied, little chewy. Finished dry with mild tongue stripping bitterness. Just a bit too harsh on the finish.

Damn good. Thanks mwbrady! Light orange pour white head. Tangerine and pine aroma. Tangerine and pine, juicy and clean citrus taste. Light refreshing body light to medium carbonation. So good.

Had on tap at brewery. A really, really excellent DIPA. Low score for appearance as it pours a bit pale for me. Would not have believed 100 IBU’s - drinks really smoothly. Hops are done perfectly and add all the right west coast flavor notes to this one- pine, citrus, earthy, dank, fresh, green, grapefruit. Has a smooth somewhat full mouthfeel. Really easy to drink considering the style. Not these guys’ first rodeo.

Growler from a friend march 2014 snowed in dc Pours bright orange with a small soapy white head. Nose is huge dank notes wow! Lots of fresh herbaceous hops grapefruit rinds just dank as hell! Damn! Flavors represent the nose very well lots of huge dank hops firm minty bitterness long into the finish. This is awesome! Body is kite and easy to drink almost too easy. Long firm bitterness on the finish. A top example of the style!

Draft after RBWG GT. Poured a clear golden body with a smaller foamy white head. Aroma is dank. Notes of wet citrus, oranges and grapefruit, some rotting lemon and bread. Smooth full body with a dry finish and a long lingering aftertaste. Flavor is the same as the aroma and add in some dry grains. Good stuff.

2/26/14. Draft at Sam's Quick Shop. Pours with a nice frothy head and big hoppy nose. High ABV balances the big hops with the results being a beer that is no more boozy or hoppy than a typical IPA. Result is something that is solid but not out of the ordinary. Definitely represents the West Coast style. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft at the brewery. Pours a bright, clear gold with a small white head that leaves spots of lace. Notes of herbs, lemon, grass, oils, straw, crackers, faint spice, and grapefruit peel. Light-bodied, with a bitter but clean mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Really nice West Coast-style IPA.

>> Pours clear golden with weaker foam. Nose is cheesy, stanky melon hops, resin, overripe papaya, vanilla. Taste is bone dry, grassy, no sugar content is good and bad. Without any juicy body left, the bitterness comes across as harsh and a tad papery. Was divided on this one.

<!> overly dry for style

RBWG 2014 Clear light gold body under a white head. Big fresh citrus hop aroma, similar to Hop Burglar. The flavor is moderately bitter with solid malt support to balance.
