The Freak is our San Francisco inspired hoppy monster. At 8.4% abv and who knows how many ibu’s, this beer is our shrine to the Hop. Absurd amounts of all the big West Coast hops give this beer it’s citrusy weedy nose and big dank hop flavor. Drinking this beer is like stuffing your face into a bag of fresh hops while eating a tangerine. We dry hop with 48lbs per batch or over 3lbs of hops per barrel. In following with the classic style of the West Coast double sugar plays a big part in creating this dry and minimally bitter double IPA. The Freak is particularly pintable for the style, so if you dare to enter we welcome you to the Freak Show.

Very happy to try a small growler of this at Beer Study. Clean sharp yellow pour with one finger of white head. Super resinous and oily nose, there’s a mild onion/garlic component with lots of citrus. Super hoppy and resinous, pretty awesome.

On tap at Tip Tap Room. Pours a clear golden with a small white head that leaves nice lacing. Nose is really fruity, a bit sugary with a light alcohol presence. Taste is moderately sweet and bitter and features some nice peaches flavors. Medium body, medium carbonation, lingering bitter finish. A pretty nice double IPA, could be just a touch drier maybe but that is about my only nitpick.

Pours cloudy golden color. Aroma is grapefruit and dank resinous pine. Flavor is dry, bitter grapefruit and finishes with dank, sticky pine resin and grapefruit rind. Dry lingering bitterness. One of the finest beers I’ve had the pleasure to drink.

On tap at Wicked Weed in Asheville back in December, just jumped into the deep end to start here. Poured clear light orange, nice head. Aroma is a massive shot of citric tropical hops, enough malt to hold it together. Flavor matches. Despite being huge and hoppy, has a sense of balance to it. Really quite outstanding.
