The Freak is our San Francisco inspired hoppy monster. At 8.4% abv and who knows how many ibuís, this beer is our shrine to the Hop. Absurd amounts of all the big West Coast hops give this beer itís citrusy weedy nose and big dank hop flavor. Drinking this beer is like stuffing your face into a bag of fresh hops while eating a tangerine. We dry hop with 48lbs per batch or over 3lbs of hops per barrel. In following with the classic style of the West Coast double sugar plays a big part in creating this dry and minimally bitter double IPA. The Freak is particularly pintable for the style, so if you dare to enter we welcome you to the Freak Show.

Hazy deep golden pour with a minimal white head. Aroma had light notes of citrus, sweet malt, orange, nice tropical fruitiness once it opens up a bit. Flavors followed suit with nice citrus notes, lingering bitterness, lemon peel, dry lingering finish. Actually super balanced and clean. Quite drinkable for the style. Overall pretty impressed by the simplicity of this one, although it seems to add depth as you drink it. Good stuff.

Bottle - 08/12. Pours clear orange, medium off-white creamy head with nice residual and lacing. Aroma is dank and nasty with notes of pot, pine and passionfruit. Flavor is light plus sweet, medium bitter, dank and juicy. The hop aromatics have faded somewhat in six weeks. I bet this is a killer when super fresh. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel.

4 oz. pour, on tap at Duckworthís in Uptown Charlotte, North Carolina. Consumed on 9-22-15. Pours a clear gold with beige head. Good lacing. Moderate effervescence. Acceptable but ordinary appearance. Piney aroma, sweet for the style. Flavor is piney and features a lemony Pine Sol element; soap. Gym locker finish. Not bad but not my thing within the Double IPA style. Medium to full body. Lively in the palate. Doesnít do it for me in honesty. I donít really understand the high ratings on this site, but to each his own.

A burnt orange, off yellow color 1 finger head from a 500ML bottle. Simcoe is very present here, pine, dank pine and some old citrus skins. Good mouthfeel, thick, IBUs are pretty intense. lingers with a ton of bitterness. borderline medicinal and just s slight peanut taste

It pours a clear golden with a foamy white head and plenty of lacing. It has aromas of citrus, grapefruit, some bread, and other hoppy aromas. There are flavors or citrus, grapefruit, grapefruit peel, and bread malts. It has a moderate to high bitter finish.

1 pint bottle from Tasty Beverage in Raleigh. Golden hue, normal clarity with mostly lasting fizzy white head. Okay lacing. Super hop grapefruit aroma, pine resin and malt. Heavy acidic citrus hop on the first sip that eventually dies down with more of a grapefruit hop finish. The more the beer warms the more the presence of malt appears. Somewhat of a dry finish. Overall a good DIPA

Pours a light golden with a soapy head and a long-lasting lacing. Smells of a typical IPA. A lot of pine needles and resin, but after sipping it for a while, there is a citrus element in there too. Bitter. The end has a sticky mouthfeel mixed with bitterness. It didnít totally sit well with me. It is not a bad beer at all, but unless I lived in that area, this would not be a go to beer for me.

500ml bottle pours a golden color with a bit of head. Lots of piney hops and hop bitterness. A little harsh.
