This ale is 5.6% abv and our first venture into barrel aged American wild ales. A blond Saison base similar to that of Saison I, fermented on our proprietary Wicked Wild strain. After fermentation we moved the beer into Petite Verdot Barrels from Rock House Vineyards and added mango, papaya and guava where it sat for 6 months. This ale is tart and tropical with notes of musty hay and citrus. The tartness of this sour is moderate and the dry fruityness makes this beer a great palate cleanser and pairs well with delicate dishes.

Updated: Aged in white wine barrels with 250 lbs per batch of papaya, mango, pineapple and guava. The beer is blended from barrels ranging 5-12 months.

This was my favorite from WW. Pours a hazy bright golden with a big white head. Nose of saison yeast and light tropical fruits, though I wouldn’t have suspected real fruit in the brew. Hay and wood and light funk. Taste adds a dry acetic quality and more wood, almost a bit closer to Chardonnay but much drier. Crisp and refreshing. I could drink this all day.

Bottle... Pours lightly hazed and yellow with a small, fizzy, white head that’s gone faster than you can say “quick.” The aromatic standouts here are nice, fruity notes of mango and guava. I don’t particularly like guava. It’s a weird fruit. I’m picking up some fresh bandages as well. Is that a faint smoky component? The nose ends up being pretty complex. The flavor is basically the same as a Berliner weisse - grainy, citrusy and tart, but no moreso than any of the hundreds of Florida Weisses I’ve tried. Tasty and enjoyable, but not a fantastic beer. Doesn’t have to be. But the price… Bottle provided by biggsbowler!

Bottle spilt with Jenny during our snow day and Scream marathon. Clear, crisp, golden pour with moderately light white head. Really nice nose of hay, pineapple, oak, tutti frutti gum, orange juice. Flavor is funky with more reminders of tartness from fruit than actual tartness. Chardonnay, guava, pineapple. Almost an amarillo hop like finish, which makes me think dry hopping this bad boy would be awesome. Funky and tangy fruit finish. Great stuff!

3oz on tap at the downstairs taproom. Labeled 6.6%. Wonderful kind of cake-like malt to this. White cake. And a nice, citrusy juicy tropical fruitiness. Moderate-plus sour taste. Nice lighter sweet balance. Smooth, kind of soft, lighter carbonation. Light slick finish. Medium-plus body. Clear golden, slight orange color. Pretty much no head. Fantastic, balanced, easy-drinking yet bright, flavorful and punchy sour.

Thanks, Carl! Excellent sour blonde. Clear golden pour. Huge tart aroma and lots of tropical fruit abound. The taste brings in the white wine barrel presence with again a heavy dose of the fruits (mango and pineapple especially) and tarts. Just a minimal bitter finish. Light bodied and good carbonation.

On tap at the Funkatorium. Yellow pour with a white head. Sour fruit aromas. Lots of sour "tropical" fruit notes here. A bit one dimensional. Good body and mouthfeel.

Location: Draft at the Wicked Weed Funkatorium, 1/2/15

Aroma: The nose is sour and tropical fruit mostly, grape and wine notes as well
Appearance: It pours a clear gold, with minimal head, and no lace
Flavor: The taste is much the same, with sour, funk, and tropical flavors
Palate: This one has a light-medium body, with a pretty good mouthfeel
Overall Impression: I actually quite enjoyed this. I’ve had enough of them to say at this point that Wicked Weed knows what they are doing with sour and funky flavors.

Thanks to JorisPPattyn. Bottle sampled @ “Nog-een-half-jaar-tot-de-volgende-EBT”. Hazy citrus, little white head. USA lactic nose, super fruity, white wine. Taste is USA lactic with typical white wine taste, quite acidic, candy, exotic fruits that are impossible to classify with lemon still dominating, lacto wine barrel, faintly puckering. Bit juice-like body. Lots of interesting fruits went into this. This is a nice beer but tastes once again like so many other USA sours.
