This 6.3% abv saison collaboration with Dobra Tea of Asheville is brewed with Pu-er tea, an ancient Chinese green tea aged from 8 to 75 years. This bright sunray yellow ale has a unique dried papaya, coconut and lemongrass nose with a silky smooth light mouthfeel from the addition of Chinese rice. Take a sip and transcend to the streets of Shanghai.

At the brewery, and then taken home in a growler. Wow, this beer was good. Pours impossibly bright hazy gold, with tiny tea remnants swirling about at times. Nose is a bit diaper-funky at first, but the fruit notes come through, as does the saison yeast and the Sorachi Ace-like hop characteristic. Some lemon and lemon grass. Nice balance of sweet and dry. So unique and yet still so drinkable. Hope this is still available when I return in two weeks.

Draft to taster at Wicked Weed. Looks good; a transparent lighter gold with white lacing. Smells solid; a nice soft balance of yeast and tea. Tastes like it smells with a pleasantly lively mouthfeel. A bot more of the tea present on the tongue, but itís still wonderfully balanced. A great take on the style.

On tap at GABF 2013, had a plastic like aroma, funky yeast and some barnyard, not great.

Thanks, Bob! Growler shared with my sis, and we both loved the tea-liciousness of it. Vibrant gold elixir for sure, cloudy but jewels within. Nice fluffy head, elegant lacing. Certainly seems that there is a really fine, quite dry and spicy saison at work here before the additions of the tea. Dry, a bit bitter, and invitingly herbal. Tea notes in the nose are certainly prominent, but promise careful integration. This is definitely true, as the appealing spicy and yeasty qualities of the saison make for a nice home for the tea, even as theyíre transformed by it. Excellent stuff.

16 oz. Cloudy yellow pour. It amazes me how Wicked Weed is able to brew so many different styles and do it so adeptly. The few other green tea beers Iíve had skimp on the green tea. In this beer itís in the forefront giving it a smooth herbal quality, almost minty, melding harmoniously with with the yeast. There are tasteful dry, cheesy notes and a grassy flavor. Super refreshing, complex and interesting.

32oz growler, thanks durhambeer for xxmarcnolanxxing these for me. Pours glowing light orange golden with a sudsy, lively white head and plenty of sticky lace. Nose is nice; lightly earthy, Meyer lemon/sour tangerine tartness, light yeast but mainly refreshing fruity funk. Upon consuming, the body feels flabby, oily, and thin for the style. Flavor is lemongrass, lots of tropical fruits, very refreshing. Slick, balanced finish with hardly any alcohol noted. Soft carbonation is nice but it makes this seem more like a fruity Belgian ale than a saison;maybe more aggressive saison yeast would improve it. Either way, this was tasty. Thanks bob. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
