This ale pays homage to the iconic whiskey cocktail. We brewed this 9.8% old ale with sweet cherries and orange zest, then aged it in whiskey barrels for 4 months to capture the essence of an old fashion. Rich bourbon and soft cherry notes roll into the warming insight on this fantastic ale. Barrel aged in a local distillery, Troy and Sons, whiskey barrels.

From bottle at Rate Beer Gallery II. Pours medium brown with a modest beige head and a bourbon and treacle aroma. There is a hearty dark molasses flavor with alots of bourbon and a very dry finish.

Draft at the source, Asheville pub crawl with Jim. Hazy amber color, tan head. Aroma of orange peel, whiskey. Taste is sweet brandied orange, cherries. Remarkable imitation of the drink.

On tap a wicked weed brewing in Asheville north Carolina. Served in a snifter with a bit of orange rind as a garnish. This is a unique brew styled to mimic an old fashioned bourbon drink. I must day that it achieves that goal admirably. The beer has a definite bourbon barrel taste that mixed with the sweetness of the malt and the orange and cherry essences blends into a nice drink. If you donít like bourbon though, this is not the drink for you.

11/26/13. On tap at the brewpub. An interesting brew for sure! Red brown pour with a small tan head. Nice aroma, the whiskey isnít too strong, with a good blend of maltiness, dark sugars, cherry, and orange. The flavor is nice as well, but loaded with cherry. So much cherry. Additionally some maltiness, sugars, orange, and whiskey. Interesting, tasty.

On tap at the brewpub. Burgundy clear pour. Rich aroma of orange juice, orange peel, and whiskey. Background notes of wood, lime, and maraschino cherries in the nose make this smell like a cocktail. Full massive flavor of whiskey, cherries, orange peel, and sangria. Warming whiskey finish. They really nailed what they were going for here. Massive and awesome!

Sample from a bottle at Ratebeer Gallery II. Pours cloudy deep amber with a small off-white head and decent lacing. Aroma is very spicy, oranges, pumpkin spices (allspice, clove), bourbon, oak, molasses. Flavor is the same, very spiced, too spiced. Medium sweet and a light zesty bitterness with some barrel astringence. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel. Not for me.

Bottle at Gallery II: Beauty From A Barrel. Pours dark ruddy copper with very little head. Aroma is sort of smoky bourbon red berry. Med body or better. Flavor is malty, tartly red berry - which could be cherry - a little bourbon, some oak wood in the finish. Itís delicious.

Deep reddish brown in color... Aroma of bourbon, cherries, orange zest... Bourbon whiskey is prevalent in the flavor with notes of cherries and orange throughout... Alcohol burn on the finish, amazingly good, does a great job of illustrating a bourbon cocktail as advertised...
