Cask at The Mermaid, St Albans on 28 September. Poured a clear amber colour with a dense off white head. Aroma of caramel, bread and nutty malt. Flavours are toffee, dark fruits and some hay dryness to balance. Finishes with grassy hops, dates and cocoa. Nothing spectacular, but pretty pleasant.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Brown 500ml bottle, best before End Nov 2008, drank early Oct 2008.
Poured into a Palm tulip glass twice.
Good mid-amber colour, clear and healthy looking. An off-white pillow of foam sat on top, sadly this soon turned into a wispy covering with a collar around the glass.
Caramel hit my nose, then hops and some yeast esters, each getting stronger as the beer warmed in the glass.
Dry bitter taste, mixed fruits somewhere in there too, not as sweet as the smell suggests.
Malty aftertaste, a bit fizzy, but fine otherwise.
Pleasant easy to drink beer, nothing special, but worth having again.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Cask at the Pembury Tavern. Pours a clear, light orange with very little head. Honey and caramel malts in the aroma. Flavor is nicely balanced, with bready malts and mild bitterness. Subtle caramel sweetness. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Finishes bready and lightly hoppy. Quintessential bitter I would say. Nice beer.
