Carlus12 (361), London, Greater London, England Mar 22, 2008 Dark amber colour, thick head. Fruity aroma with malts, slightly metallic. Taste is somewhat sweet with caramel and honey late on. Hoppy dry finish. OK enough, but not great.
wheresthepath (189), Buckinghamshire, England May 16, 2008 [On draught at the Boot & Slipper, Amersham] I should really give up on these special event tie-ins with "comedic" names - I think that this cringeworthily punned effort must be for the Six Nations. I’m not sure I’ve ever had a good "tie-in" beer - I think quite often brewers see it as an opportunity to re-label and sell a bad batch of their normal beer, which they would otherwise have to bin. However, there’s always that feeling at the back of your mind - "it’s a one-off - what if I miss out on it and it turns out to be one of those beers that people are talking about for years to come?". Unfortunately, Right Flanker is no exception to the normal rule - the initial taste is mouth-wrinklingly bitter, but this eventually mellows into a very average, although slightly sour, beer. With no other real flavours, this is, to hijack their own pun, a "right flanker" of a beer. downender (1434), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England Oct 16, 2007 Cask conditioned at the Knights Templar JDW, Bristol Temple Meads 16/10/07. Dark amber with a slight, off-white yet lacy head. A standard best bitter with a caramel aroma followed by a sweet malt flavour and not much of a finish. Inoffensive. GarethYoung (1108), Glasgow, Scotland Jun 27, 2007 [Cask from The Three Judges] Clear ruby colour. Aroma of red fruit, toasty and malty. Light a creamy with a touch of vanilla and a dry finish. jammin7jg (139), Withington, Manchester, England May 7, 2007 [CASK: The Salisbury Ale House, Manchester 06/03/07] A middle of the pack ale. Nothing special here but not horrible.
