COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Drawing inspiration from an Old Fashioned cocktail recipe and the Gentlemenís Clubs where the cocktail was first served over 100 years ago, this collaboration beer brings together two breweries from opposite ends of the country and ingredients from the home states of both breweries. Using an Old Ale recipe as the base beer, Gentlemenís Club was brewed with cherries and oranges, Alchemy, Sorachi Ace and Pacifica hops, and hand-selected specialty malts to mirror the qualities typically found in an Old Fashioned cocktail. The beer was aged on three different woods: bourbon barrels, rye whiskey barrels and new oak spirals, resulting in three unique versions of the beer, each offering a slightly different take on the same age-old recipe.

Hazy glowing brown. Nutty creamy smells. Creamy nutty taste that fades to a bourbon bite that hits then fades. Medium thick mouth-feel.

Burnt tangerine and chestnut pour with a small khaki head. Boozy bourbon, caramel, and maybe a hint of vanilla and dark fruit. This one isnít complex at all. Alcohol forward. Expected this from Widmer, was hoping for more from Cigar City.

Caramel tan orange in color... Aroma of vanilla, bourbon... Flavor is caramel, light body for the style... Spicy throughout, alcohol fairly prevalent... A little disappointing, not terribly complex ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

7 oct 3013, bottle. Redish, clear, no bubbles. Nose is alcohol, faint blue cheese, glazed cherries, raisins. Med body and mildly fizzy. Toasted nuts, some woodiness, mild alcohol, a bit winey. Ok. A barrel aged old ale could be bigger and more complex. This isn't very big and isn't very complex. It's a nice beer but it has a lot of unfulfilled potential. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle:   Deep caramel, moderate frothy sandy head, nice lacing.   Astringent caramel malt aroma.   Slightly green, some toffee, vanilla, bourbon, and faint hops.   Not as much bourbon as I was hoping.   Seems a somewhat lighter example.   Feels very green but without being biting.   Moderately malty, soft bourbon on the tongue, green hops (light).   Not as complex as I thought it was going to be, and now thinking I paid about $20 for this I gotta say, its more than double what its worth.   Body and mouthfeel are only average.   I was thinking thick and viscous, warming, chewy, caramel, smooth hops, but its not really any of that.   Pedestrian at best.   Green finish, and I mean G R E E N !   Good job, you got my money...

On tap @ Out of the Park Pizza. Brownish pour with a khaki head. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, orange, and toffee. Dark fruit, wood, and a hint of spice. Flavor is a touch boozy, but nice bourbon flavor. Vanilla, wood, and dark fruits. Orange peel, a bit of spice, and toffee.

Of the three in the series, I believe it's my favorite -- surprising, because I'm not a big bourbon guy. The bourbon taste here is exquisite and perfectly balanced. Still some alcohol heat at the back end that would mellow over time, but I'm impetuous. Just Solid. A ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Capitol Beer, Sacramento. Pours orange brown with a nice beige head and a treacle and bourbon aroma. There is full-bodied dark molasses flavor with a heavy bourbon finish.

Bomber. Aroma seems to have more oak barrel-aged characteristics than the rye, but not as much as the new oak spirals. Thereís toasted coconut and vanilla here, but not as much as the new oak. The fruit isnít as strong as in the rye version--it seems about the same or less as the new oak. I smell a general mild fruitiness, a fruit cocktail-like mixture with no one fruit standing out; the other two versions had more fruit. The appearance in this one isnít as nice, with a much more quickly diminishing head. Taste is much like the other two, without the overt oakiness of the fresh oak and without the fruit and spicy presence of the rye version. The booziness youíd expect from a bourbon barrel isnít all that pronounced--itís definitely there, just not in your face, but itís still boozier than the other two. Palate seems the same, maybe a little less thin than the other two. Like the other two, it really recollects the Old Fashioned cocktail in an impressive way. Really nice beer, but surprisingly the least impressive for me.

Bottle last one tried in the series. Pour has a brown color and a thin coat of tan head that fell right to a ring. Aroma has bourbon, vanilla, dark rich malt, and some fruit. Mouth feel is a solid medium and the carbonation is on the low side. Flavor has bourbon barrels, light bourbon sweetness, oak, dark malts, and some light bitterness.
