COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Drawing inspiration from an Old Fashioned cocktail recipe and the Gentlemenís Clubs where the cocktail was first served over 100 years ago, this collaboration beer brings together two breweries from opposite ends of the country and ingredients from the home states of both breweries. Using an Old Ale recipe as the base beer, Gentlemenís Club was brewed with cherries and oranges, Alchemy, Sorachi Ace and Pacifica hops, and hand-selected specialty malts to mirror the qualities typically found in an Old Fashioned cocktail. The beer was aged on three different woods: bourbon barrels, rye whiskey barrels and new oak spirals, resulting in three unique versions of the beer, each offering a slightly different take on the same age-old recipe.

Bomber. Aroma seems to have more oak barrel-aged characteristics than the rye, but not as much as the new oak spirals. Thereís toasted coconut and vanilla here, but not as much as the new oak. The fruit isnít as strong as in the rye version--it seems about the same or less as the new oak. I smell a general mild fruitiness, a fruit cocktail-like mixture with no one fruit standing out; the other two versions had more fruit. The appearance in this one isnít as nice, with a much more quickly diminishing head. Taste is much like the other two, without the overt oakiness of the fresh oak and without the fruit and spicy presence of the rye version. The booziness youíd expect from a bourbon barrel isnít all that pronounced--itís definitely there, just not in your face, but itís still boozier than the other two. Palate seems the same, maybe a little less thin than the other two. Like the other two, it really recollects the Old Fashioned cocktail in an impressive way. Really nice beer, but surprisingly the least impressive for me.

Dogbrick (7585) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - JUN 16, 2014
Clear amber-orange color with a medium thin off-white head that dissipates steadily to an outer ring. Strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of bourbon, citrus and malt. Full-bodied with an oaky bourbon character and flavors of caramel malt and fruit. The finish is oaky with a subtle bourbon and citrus aftertaste. Decent overall.

Bottle 22fl.oz. @ cgarvieuk [ Lets do a chrisO Tasting ], Edinburgh, Scotland.

[ As Widmer Brothers / Cigar City Gentlemens Club (Bourbon Barrel) ].
Clear medium amber orange color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to light beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, candy, sweet malt, wood, oak, vanilla. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, zest bitter, oak, alcohol - bourbon. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light alcoholic. Rusty raisin rouge with nary a head to be found. I was disappointed in this one to be honest. It is quite expensive by the bottle so I tried it on tap first expecting to be floored. Instead I found a somewhat watered down, one dimensional taste of wood, burnt raisins, vanilla, some spices, toffee, toast and light banana. It was boozy tasting but not of bourbon and not in a very pleasant way. The flavour is OK but it goes nowhere, just sits on the tongue and pervades through your mouth.

hopscotch (8783) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - MAY 28, 2014
Draft... Clear amber pour with a mid-sized, creamy, white head. Fantastic retention. The nose is so suble, all I can pull from the glass is toffee maltiness - no bourbon here. Medium to full-bodied with moderate carbonation. Nothing really stands out in the flavor. Itís just bittersweet and bland. Finishes sweet with a generous measure of alcohol warmth. Meh.

Sample pour at a festival. Pours mostly clear amber/copper with creamy off-white head. Aroma is bready malts, vanilla, oak, dates, and floral notes. Flavor is dry malts, caramel, light vanilla, some dark fruit notes, and light hops; dry oak finish. Medium body and carbonation.

Draft at Beer and Bacon. Pours hazy copper with a bubbly beige head. tastes like strong booze, cherries, grains. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like sweet grains and musky dried cherries.

Arayaga2 (1769) - portland, Oregon, USA - APR 27, 2014
Reddish brown with a thin white head. Aroma is sweet, with oxidized orange and caramel. Thereís a lot of bourbon up front in the taste, with odd, boozy fruitcake into the aftertaste. Not sure what all the hype is about, or the $18/22oz pricetag ($10 on sale)

Bottle @ The Lets do a Chris O tasting. Pours brown with a very slight head. Whisky and fruit on the nose same type of thing going on taste wise but more whisky and less fruit, this tasted like it was rough cheap bourbon barrels and did it no favours

McNeillR (1088) - SCOTLAND - MAR 18, 2014
Amberish and existent white head. Bright bourbon, plastically/tinsel grainy citrus nose. Chewy Bourbon is consistent and creamy but rocks the boat a little throughout, engulfing a decent woody malt middle and a dry and logical finish. Trafficked bourbon astringency doesnít decant any enjoyment from what was probably a well put together brew.

Bottle, CAGarvieís "Letís Do A Chris O" Chris-O-age, vile style
