3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
I had this right after the rye barrel aged one. I started to do a side-by-side with all three. However...after finishing one at an ABV of 10% you tend to forget what your original plan would be. Either way, this one was good, but not as good at the Rye barrel aged one IMO.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at SB. Pours a murky dark brown with a dense and creamy tan head that sticks around forever. Big sweet malty nose, tons of unfermented cereal sugars. Caramel, molasses, brown bread dough. Creamy thick body with soft carb. Caramel, molasses, apricots, and vanilla on the mid palate. Nice, but mostly a bunch of sweet stuff running around.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle via Eric: First off this is a beautiful brew, glowing coppery hue with a small but lasting head. First there is a pronounced cotton candy tone that actually is very appropriate here. Slight macerated cherries, candied orange zest and some lemon twists too. A light handed white winey hop character makes this even more enthralling. The tannic nature of the new oak is a sublime addition to the complex flavor profile even if it not on the nose. Finally what can only be described as Grains of Paradise brings a spicy touch to the aftertaste. All in all I am digging this much more than I would have anticipated. Perhaps a few months age helped it out, I dunno?

1.8 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 5/20
Bottle. Brown pour with tan head. Sweet malt, maybe and oak and bourbon like aromas. Flavors aren’t very fruit filled, malt and oak tones.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bomber shared by Eugene - hazy orange - little to not lace - large, chunky floaties - nose is moderate oak and mostly nondescript, innocuous sweetness, maybe some fruit cocktail - flavor is bland fruity sweetness, sharp bitterness, moderate oak - I can’t taste any of the fruit supposedly used in this - lame.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: DEC 13, 2014 22 oz bottle- Pours hazy dark orange with a small yet sustaining light tan head, similar to the other two. Aroma is oak, marshmallows, toffee, not getting much fruit. The taste is oak, there is a sweetness that i am having a hard time identifying, toffee and overripe fruit. Unique experiment, i think they are all very similar, mild differences of course, but same basic beer, but i guess that’s the idea behind the beer. The more i drink this the more it gets boozy, growing tired of it actually, taste i think is downgraded by one.

Un cauchemar pour les diabétiques alors que sucres s’empilent et cachent les subtilités qui semblaient intéressantes sur papier. J’entrevois quand même l’orange et une verdure timide.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle at home. Nose is lightly oaked, citrusy and resinous hops, caramel malts. Flavor is very similar with a sweetness that barely sneaks past the oak and hops. I’ve had this twice now. It was quite a bit better after it developed in the bottle, new vs. now.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz bottle pour split. Pours a dark red with not much head. Dark fruit bold aroma. Really dry tasting beer, with cherries and plum combined with an aged feel. A little graham cracker. Super smooth flavor with a really nice oak aged feel. Solid, smooth strong ale here. Good beer.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
"1st of the three, aged on oak rather than in spirit barrels. Pretty nice look and feel. Definitely a fruitier and spicier take on the old ale style, but was unique and tasty. Can’t wait to try with the others. Flavor was pretty much the same in the bottle...traditional old ale with a boost from cherries and citrus zest, but the aroma was nearly good enough to bump the score."

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Copper pour with a white head. Aromas of orange peel and oak. Flavor is similar. I don’t get much cherry or lemon but the orange and oak are there. Not bad.
