Iím a bit partical to Rye Barrel aged beer! This one, could use perhaps some time in the cellar. But I wanted to see first if it was worth it...it was. So obviously you can read the other comments on the taste, feel and overall how it turned out. But for me. This is one Iíll let age.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Baileyís - pours hazy amber with an off-white head. The aroma has lots of malty toffee, brown sugar, bourbon, caramel, mild orange and some vanilla. It has a fairly full body, but is rough and grainy with a light amount of carbonation. The flavor starts with dry heavy toasted malt, wood, paper, cardboard, orange / lemon zest and brown sugar. The finish has heavy alcohol and oxidation.

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Pour is a murky light copper color with a tan head that dissipates quickly. Nose is heavy caramel malt, a bit of metallic phenol, moderate wood, boozier whiskey, some banana esters and a little sweeter. Flavor is similar, extremely sweet and messy malts of caramel and a touch of metal. Notes of toffee, banana, green apple skin. Really sweet, the barrel is underlying and not really adding. Full bodied, fairly chewy, soft carb.

Caramel brown pour. Aroma is caramel with a mild barrel character. Taste is same as the above. Nice body. Overall, lovely beer here - love the caramel toffee character and the way the barrel is in play but not overly dominant.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured clear ruby color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted malt and dark wood with an alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy dark sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This beer met my expectations.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
22 oz. bottle shared with the group. Pours a slightly hazy deep amber color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have sweet malts, rye whiskey, more woody, vanilla, cherry, some citrus, boozy, all the flavors didnít really play well together early, but this started to improve for me as it warmed as more of the flavors come out, still a bit sweet.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Malty aroma with a healthy does on vanilla, malt syrup, and some alcohol. Red orange color with a thin off-white crown. Vanilla maltiness, light rye bread crust, average level of herbal/earthy hops and candied orange peel; alcohol venting through the nose along with sugary rye whiskey in the finish. Medium to medium full body, smooth. Okay, far from great. Nothing special. +1 for the cool label.

22 oz bottle- Pours hazy dark orange with a thin light tan head, similar if not identical to the Bourbon version. Aroma is seemingly more muted, getting a little cherries, oak, some vanilla. The taste is oak, i am really getting the rye, spicy and somewhat dry, a bit more of a harshness to this over the bourbon. These are more different than i thought, both have their qualities, but i think i like the bourbon a bit better.

Draft at Moriartys. Billed as "Widmer Rye Barrel Aged". DeScription-wise this seems the likely choice - but not certain. Ended up with the last pour of the keg. So all this may be nonsense. BUT - clear dark orange amber pour with a slim lasting small-bubble off-white head. Plumy old ale. Slight smoke. Feels a bit watery. Noticeable Whiskey notes though in balance they feel quite faint. Some spiciness gatherers towards the finish. Some nice interesting flavors here but ultimately feels too muted and watered down.
