Drawing inspiration from an Old Fashioned cocktail recipe and the Gentlemenís Clubs where the cocktail was first served over 100 years ago, this collaboration beer brings together two breweries from opposite ends of the country and ingredients from the home states of both breweries. Using an Old Ale recipe as the base beer, Gentlemenís Club was brewed with cherries and oranges, Alchemy, Sorachi Ace and Pacifica hops, and hand-selected specialty malts to mirror the qualities typically found in an Old Fashioned cocktail. The beer was aged on three different woods: bourbon barrels, rye whiskey barrels and new oak spirals, resulting in three unique versions of the beer, each offering a slightly different take on the same age-old recipe.

Iím a bit partical to Rye Barrel aged beer! This one, could use perhaps some time in the cellar. But I wanted to see first if it was worth it...it was. So obviously you can read the other comments on the taste, feel and overall how it turned out. But for me. This is one Iíll let age.

On tap. Murky dark red with a small beige head. Aroma and flavor are both sweet - dried fruit, oak chips, rye, cherry, caramel, tropical fruit. Finish is bourbon and cherries. I have to say, this does taste a lot like an old fashioned mixed drink.

Bottle from Healthy Spirits, SF, February 2014. Amber with a small head. Quite sweet with dried fruit, oak, whisky, light malt and some fruit. Some warming alcohol in the finish. An ok one.

On tap at Apex on the last day of Stout Fest. Somewhat murky dark amber with a creamy head that disappears. Similar to the bourbon with the tropical fruitiness and some vanilla but a stronger and more potent rye presence, still smooth but bitter with moderate carbonation and strong body. Feel that the rye just overpowers everything but the fruit.

From the bottle. Pink and red label. Sweet and sticky with the high ABV/alcohol taste I got from the other one as well. Sticky in the end.

Surprisingly disappointing for such an expensive beer. The rye and barrel notes are there up front but the rest is just flat out thin. No heft to this beer at all.

Bottle. Rich amber-brown beer with a tan head. Caramel and whiskey aroma with light cherry. Caramel and cherry flavor with rye whiskey and light oak. Medium bodied. Caramel and cherry lingers with light lemon and light rye whiskey.

12/20/2013. From bottle. Pours dark amber with an off-white head. Sweet caramel aromas with malt and fruit. Sweet caramel flavors, lots of sappy oak, buttery with a bit of alcohol burn.

Draft... Mostly clear amber ale with a mid-sized, rocky, white head. Decent retention. The nose presents toffee, honey and a hint of rye whiskey. Full-bodied and creamy with lazy carbonation. The restrained, bittersweet flavor and finish are a merging of rye whiskey, toffee and hops. Despite the rye whiskey component, there is no real alcohol heat. Unfortunately, I donít like Old Fashioned cocktails and I donít like this beer.
